Do you have an exasperating dh ?

So my dh has now the need for varifocal glasses after a few years of only needing specs for distance. The optician suggested varifocals , he initially said he wouldn't want them so the answer is 2 different pairs / 2 prescriptions. When he came out of the appointment to choose them I reminded him that I have them and you get used to it pretty quickly. So he went for them at a cost of £308 for the 1 one pair. We collected them yesterday and went for a coffee. Well they stayed on for about 10 minutes, and he decided he couldn't see very well, couldn't read blah blah. It was explained to him about taking time to adjust to wearing them and getting used to them. He took them off and back to his old ones. I'm peed off by his inability to take the time to at least try !

They can be tricky, but it'll be a waste of a lot of money if he doesn't at least give it a try.

Some people don’t like change and can’t accept the change that varifocals bring about. The vision is obviously not as perfect as as distance pair when it comes to distance, and near vision when it comes to close up because it’s not a whole lens of each.

I think if he’s been talked into them then his expectations possibly haven’t been managed well, the varifocal may need an upgrade or as he simply didn’t want them doesn’t really want to try.
Tell him to take them back and go back to two pairs or bifocals if he’s unwilling to try, it’s a waste of everyone time.

I got a pair of varifocals last year, couldn't get on with them at all so went back to two pairs of glasses.

Lenses are often the cheap part of a pair of glasses. Even varifocals.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 12/09/2018 09:24

I don't think its your place really to be pissed off with him, he knows his own eyes and if he was struggling, he was struggling. Let him get used to them in his own time, You were wrong to push him into getting them in the first place if thats not what he wanted to do.

That's not been my experience. My v/f lenses were £300, and that wasn't even for the top-end version. My frames, on the other hand, were about £150.

Namethecat · 12/09/2018 11:15

the actual specs were.£139, the prescription the rest.

I have two pairs, normal and intermediate for computer. I've just searched my email, for two pairs plus postage I paid £35.96 to an on-line seller. (2x£15 plus postage.)

isthismylifenow · 12/09/2018 12:06

It did take me a while to get used to mine OP. I would just wear them a bit at a time, until i got used to them. So i did have two pairs on the go for a while.

Give him time.

butterflysugarbaby · 12/09/2018 12:08

Well don't worry too much. When my DH wanted to try varifocals, Boots, specsavers AND Asda Opticians said if they didn't suit him - and he didn't get on with them, he could have a full refund.

Birdsgottafly · 12/09/2018 12:16

Was he pushed into getting them, your OP sounds as though he was.

This is one of those situations were he gets to choose. Unless he got to choose your sanitary protection and other personal stuff.

He may give them another go. But either way he is an Adult, not one of your children.

Gramgram · 12/09/2018 15:32

They take time to get used to, so he needs to give himself that time. He'd probably be better off in familiar surroundings too. If he can't get used to them then let him take them back.
