To cringe at wanky marketing speak?

Posted previously about John Lewis after sales service which has prompted this post.

Still waiting for my damaged wardrobe to be replaced but that's another story.

However having spoken to different after sales agents they keep referring to my "journey" with JL 😂

As in "we will contact you once your journey with us is over to make sure the matter has been fully resolved".

Now I know it's the language they've been told to use but why all the wanky language and what's happened to just saying it as is?

I'm not on journey with JL.

We aren't skipping off into the sunset together nor are we on the path to enlightenment.

It just makes me cringe and makes me grumpy! Maybe I'm just getting too old 😂

FYI, in my experience, most of us who write this shit hate it too. My co-worker just spent 20 minutes laughing our asses off at some quotes we had to write for senior management. Full of this kind of stuff. We often joke about whether we should put fake words in and see if anyone notices.

I temped (very briefly) for a company in the 90s, on the reception. They sat me down and told me I had to use 'sexy words', by which they meant I couldn't say anything negative. 'I'm sorry, Mr Smith is in a meeting right now ...' no no no!!!! 'Mr Smith will be available to assist you later, in the meantime may I direct you to Mr Jones, who will be happy to answer your query to the best of his ability ...' it was exhausting. And pointless - people just wanted to know, is Mr Smith free or not?!

Say 'ooh, a journey!! Are you sending me on a free holiday in compensation?!'

IfNotNowThenWhen1 that sounds fun. Grin
I know a department in my organisation had a really long team meeting or something one time so they set themselves a challenge. Unknown to the director of course, who was chairing the meeting.
They had to choose a key word when they were doing their talking stuff. The more they got their key word in the more points they scored.
Apparently there was much mirth under the table. The director was just a little vexed.
My friend won. I'm glad I wasn't there I would have been in stitches Grin
