How much would you pay?

Only posting in here has it seems a popular category. How much would you pay for a 06 plate beetle convertible, immaculate body work. 9 months mot, drives perfect. Down sides. Wing mirror has been knocked so needs fixing/tightening. Engine light on, water coolant light on?

How about look at Auto Trader.

FissionChips · 11/09/2018 17:10

50 pence

ConsiderHerWaysAndOthers · 11/09/2018 17:14

Sounds just like my first car right down to the engine light! Personally even for the nostalgia factor I wouldn’t touch it without knowing why those warning lights were on. Also you don’t mention mileage.

ShatnersBassoon · 11/09/2018 17:14

Have you been servicing and maintaining it? How come warning lights are on and not sorted?

shuz1980 · 11/09/2018 17:30

Im potentially buying it to do it up. Its done 60000 miles. Guy wants £1500.

It has some service history. And lights have come on without 'reason'

I'd only pay at most half of that

liverbird79 · 11/09/2018 17:36

Have a look at the glass guide

mumonashoestring · 11/09/2018 17:43

Have a look at owners forums if there are any - some makes and models have common faults where for example a warning light will come on more often because the sensor gets misaligned. Also check what the service intervals are - is it just about to hit a big, engine-out, major expense service? Do you have the reg number so you can do a search and check for outstanding finance, Cat D or D or similar?

Also be wary of the 'some' service history - DH used to work in a Ford dealership where a staff member got caught selling their company stamps on to dishonest shitbags who were fabricating service histories for rubbish cars. Look out for things like different garage stamps but identical handwriting for example.

mothertominibeasts · 11/09/2018 17:57

Best thing to do is plug it into a diagnostic computer and that will tell you what the problem is. Warning light could mean anything.

ThePants999 · 11/09/2018 17:57

About tree fiddy

Lazypuppy · 11/09/2018 17:59

I wouldn't buy an 06 plate, too old

Armchairanarchist · 11/09/2018 18:06

Don't buy a car with the engine management light on.

Lwmommy · 11/09/2018 18:09

Yeah dont do it, it could be q simple fix or it could mean the head gaskets going or the ECU needs replacing or any number of big big fixes that will set you back hundreds if not thousands in repairs.

shuz1980 · 11/09/2018 18:18

Thanks for all the advice.

Don't do it. I bought a similar aged beetle a few years ago it it was utterly problematic. Walk away. Cheap Beetles are ten a penny now you'll find another quickly.
