Am I a CF to expect free lunch for my DD?

Booked a two week holiday with DP and DD (3).

The hotel has advertised 'kids stay and eat for free'.

We have booked half board. Me and DP won't need lunch but obviously DD will.

Am I a CF to assume she can have a little plate from the buffet at lunch time? Or do I need to budget an extra fiver or so a day to buy her lunch?

Yes. Half board doesn’t include lunch.

SimplyPut · 11/09/2018 14:41

Her free meals will only be the same as your boarding plan.

Sirzy · 11/09/2018 14:43

Half board doesn’t include lunch so why would she be entitled to some?

50Running50 · 11/09/2018 14:44

Oh god!! Really? You've got to ask?Hmm

Sleepyandtired21 · 11/09/2018 14:45

I would assume eating for free meant eating for free on the half board plan, not extra. I think it is CFery to expect a free buffet meal - imagine 100 children booked in to a hotel all expecting a free lunch with no adult fee paid..would soon tot up and get added to the overall price for other people booking..

jasminemaya · 11/09/2018 14:45

Ah okay, thanks for the replies. The 'kids stay and eat for free' statement didn't have any T&Cs so I thought they might be happy for her to have a little bowl of pasta or something at lunch time.

You’ll need to buy her lunch if you’re half board otherwise you’d be a cf!

BunnyColvin · 11/09/2018 14:46

Yes CF!

How will you survive from brekkie to dinner though?

[misses point]

Lemontart25 · 11/09/2018 14:46

Yes tbh with that I would only assume mine would "eat free" on the same meal basis as me.

MyYoniFromHull · 11/09/2018 14:47

This place is really weird today.

southnownorth · 11/09/2018 14:48

Yes CF OP.

Make her up a little lunch from the breakfast buffet?

Trialsmum · 11/09/2018 14:48

It’ll mean she eats for free on a half board basis. Otherwise you could argue that everything she wants to eat should be free, then she’s all inclusive and you’re only paying for half board.

Excited101 · 11/09/2018 14:48

Depends what the half board details are, lots of places are breakfast and lunch or breakfast and either lunch or dinner. But yes, I’d assume it’s the same meal as you’ll have.

Justgivemesomepeace · 11/09/2018 14:49

You may get coloured bands or something to wear that shows what level of board you are. They may not even let you in the buffet at lunch time.

jasminemaya · 11/09/2018 14:52

I'm glad I asked! You can tell we're not used to going on holiday BlushI have no idea what the etiquette is. I would have thought making up a lunch for her from the breakfast buffet was more CF!

you buy lunch for her. expecting it for free, either from the lunch buffet or by taking from the breakfast buffet, is stealing.

mrsm43s · 11/09/2018 14:55

Do you think "kids stay and eat for free" means that I can drop off my teenagers to have a free room and free food, despite DH and I not staying in the hotel at all? After all, they're "kids", so entitled to "stay and eat for free"

keyboardkate · 11/09/2018 14:55

Curious as to why you and DP will not need lunch!

Maybe you just have a piece of fruit and yogurt bought in a shop or something, if so the same for DD job done.

Figgygal · 11/09/2018 14:57

Dear god of course you can't do that

mrsm43s · 11/09/2018 14:57

Oh and "making up a lunch for her from the breakfast buffet" is stealing and totally unacceptable.

You need to pay for your daughter's lunch, either at the hotel, or buy something from a shop.

WilyMinx · 11/09/2018 14:58

Please don't take anything away from the breakfast buffet. You can probably sneak some bread into a tissue, but don't blatantly shovel food into Tupperware.

I have no problem with taking a muffin from the breakfast buffet for a mid-morning snack. But not making up a whole packed lunch for her. (Which would be grim anyway, particularly if mum and dad are having a nice lunch in a restaurant and she is stuck with warm sandwiches wrapped in a paper napkin)

Havaina · 11/09/2018 15:09

OP, don't take the word of Mumsnet, please. Speak to the hotel/booking agency. They may well make provision for your DD as a gesture of goodwill.

If they say DD can't have lunch, then it would be unreasonable to get her a little plate at the buffet because some parents would abuse it and get enough food for the adults as well.
