Sick only at night? What could this be?

Sorry posting for traffic really as I'm going out of my mind with worry.
Before I start let me say I have phoned a doctor and she is seeing them later this morning.

My DD is 6 and sat night started been sick (3 times in 3hours) then was fine all Sunday day time. She ate toast and drank water fine.
Got to night and she was sick again 2 times and then slept all night (though moaned in her sleep all night)

Yesterday she was teary. Said her belly and throat hurt. Ate a small amount at lunch time. Drank plenty. Slept from 1pm to 4pm, had a tiny bit to eat and went back to sleep woke at 6ish and was sick again then complained she was starving and wanted banana and custard.
She ate that and went to sleep at 6ish and slept until 7am this morning.

She woke up, had a drink and a bit of custard (it's her go too feel better food). Asked for calpol cos her belly hurts and then went back to sleep.

So.... Anyone any idea what is going on? I thought bug at first but she is keeping food down all day. Drinking lots (at least a full drink bottle worth of water) and keeping it down.
It's just evening she has been sick.
And she's sleeping so much and when she is awake she looks groggy/mumbles rather than talks.

As I said we're going to the doctors soon but just keep imagining the worst. Could it just be a bug?

OP when my DS was tiny he used to be sick at night because he had enormous tonsils which basically choked him in his sleep and made him gag. He would also stop breathing for shortish periods for the same reason (sleep apnea). Being permanently tired is another symptom as they're not getting quality sleep due to fighting for breath. I can't remember all the symptoms now but if you google 'obstructive sleep apnea' you'll come across loads of examples which might help you rule it in/out. The sickness in our case was a red herring as it's not a common symptom so it took a year of nighttime vomiting for them to diagnose him Hmm but when I read the other symptoms it all clicked.

Hope she feels better soon whatever it is!

It does sound like a gastro bug. It’s not like she’s totally normal and well during the daytime - she has stomachache and is sleeping. I don’t know what it is, but when you’re ill you always seem to deteriorate at night.

Hi OP, not sure if it’s any help but it’s very similar (if not the same) hopefully it might make you feel less worried.
My DD6 had this last week, only she was sick in the morning.
She complained of a stomach ache Friday night but said it felt more like hunger, gave her a bit of toast and she went to bed, slept through.
Saturday morning came and she was sick in her bed and the toilet. Went back to bed to sleep for a few hours, woke up had water and dry food and kept it down.
She was fine Saturday night, woke up Sunday morning she said she felt a bit better but her tummy was hurting. Took her for a bit of fresh air and she ended up being sick in the garden.
Did the same thing for her as we did on Saturday and she was better by the evening.
I called the pharmacy in the day on Sunday and they said it sounds like a virus. Told me to give her calpol if she had a temp (she only had a temp on Monday but no sickness) and sips of water and dry foods.
She was back to herself and feeling much better by the Tuesday.
Hope your DD feels better soon x

Could it be cyclical vomiting syndrome?

Foodylicious · 11/09/2018 10:00

Could be tonsillitis Maybe?
Hope LO is better soon

KitKatCHA · 11/09/2018 10:02

My DS had similar, ended up being constipation

User9870 · 11/09/2018 10:14

Thanks.
I'm hoping it's just a bug....it's just gone on longer than any other bug. And every other bug she's had (even one she ended up in hospital dehydrated) she's been up playing after a day.

Sounds like a bug to me. Sometimes they can go on a while.

I'm a bit old school but usually do 24 hours of starvation and small sips of fluids only and this usually kicks bugs after 24 hours. Could be worth a try but I think after several days of limited food I'd be reluctant to go down this route. Definitely stick to dry toast though. Milk is the main thing that breeds the germs so do steer clear of custard until she's stopped vomiting for 48 hours. The nighttime vomiting could be a bit of a red herring, eg she starts to feel better so eats and then is sick, which happens to be at night because of the time she last ate. Wait and see what the doctor says. Hope she feels better soon.

Hi OP. Just wanted to add, my DD has always taken a long time to get over stomach upsets. Sometimes she’ll be ok for a couple of days then get stomach pains/sickness again. Good luck at Drs, I’m sure it’s nothing serious x

Update. Were currently sat in hospital waiting to see a doctor as she's very dehydrated and has high ketones (?????) In urine. Gp was surprised as her urine was a light colour when he tested it but phoned the hospital to bring her in straight away

Op did you find out what was causing the vomiting?

User9870 · 13/09/2018 15:41

Doctors said probably a virus. She was given a bag of fluids and let out morning after.
She's picked up now but still too weak for school tomorrow even though she's not been sick since Monday. It's the worst one we've ever had.
