My poor baby's skin :-(

I posted before, but didn't get much traffic. My 7 week old DD has a horrible rash on her face, and every day it gets worse. I keel getting told it's 'normal' baby acne, but she keeps scratching at her face repeatedly, and I'm now wondering if it's bothering her. I have stopped eating dairy (I'm BF'ing) but only for the past few days. Up until just shy of 6 weeks, she had lovely skin, and it started really suddenly. It's also on the other side of her face, on her ears and has started to spread to her neck. We haven't changed anything, and don't use products on her skin. It is just getting worse every day, and I'm not sure what to do. She also has digestive and reflux issues. I'm finding it really hard that I can't make it better for her. Would I be unreasonable to get if looked at, or would that be a waste of a GP's time?

Oh bless you both, looks sore. I have no medical expertise but I would certainly take her in. You're def not wasting a doctor's time. Follow your instincts- I know they're hard to trust in the early days with all the newborn fog! - but it will be worth it for the reassurance X

Cupcakecafe · 10/09/2018 20:54

I would say get it looked at, it appears to be bothering her, and you are worrying. Personally in your situation I would get it checked out.

If you don't want to see your gp how about your health visitor? They should be seeing you soon as they see you just before the 8 week vaccinations iirc. They'll tell you if you need to see your gp or not.

Or possibly take her to a pharmacy, pharmacists are meant to be trained in what is "normal" and what needs referring to a doctor. Because the baby is so young they'd probably just advise a doctor anyway to be fair.

QueenArseClangers · 10/09/2018 20:55

DD was exactly the same. I ended up going dairy free and it cleared up after a month or so. Found that oat baths helped a wee bit and keeping her nails trimmed (well I used to nibble them off because she was so delicious).
I found it useful keeping a diary. Flowers

Elliss2018 · 10/09/2018 20:56

Aww bless her! Maybe ask your health visitor or make an appointment with your GP. She looks gorgeous OP Smile

Want2bSupermum · 10/09/2018 20:57

My DC had newborn acne. It does look like newborn acne but mine had newborn acne in weeks 1 and 2. I'd def be going to the doctor ASAP to rule out allergies.

AliTheMinx · 10/09/2018 20:57

I'd definitely get her checked out just to put your mind at rest. Hope all ok, OP.

redsummershoes · 10/09/2018 20:57

take her back. poor thing looks sore.
dc1 had a skin staph infection at that age which started similar.
dc was quite poorly with it and we needed to do antiseptic baths as well as anti biotics.

goldhen · 10/09/2018 20:58

My DDs was like this and it went away eventually. Although now she is struggling with cradle cap and tiny bumps over her arms and legs which seem to get irritated by heat/sun exposure. She’s very fair skinned as well so not sure if that contributes. Going to go into my local pharmacist tomorrow and get some advice but if you’re worried about your newborn then go see your GP. Hope everything goes well with you and your DDSmile

CurlyhairedAssassin · 10/09/2018 21:00

Is it not sweat rash? Seems to be where she’d Lie with her head to one side?

IdentifyasTired · 10/09/2018 21:01

My little one had skin that looked v similar. It seemed to be connected to heat. Keeping her lesd clothed indoors pretty much sorted it. Is it possible she is too hot?

Morgan12 · 10/09/2018 21:02

My DD had baby acne. Aveeno cleared it up within a few days.

Flatwhite32 · 10/09/2018 21:06

@Cupcakecafe we saw the health visitor on Friday who said it was normal baby acne! To be fair, it has really flared up over the past two days, and wasn't as bad on Friday.

@Want2bSupermum I have extensively googled baby acne, and most websites say babies get it in the very early weeks (1-4), so I'm not sure why this has struck later.

@CurlyhairedAssassin it could be, but I can't stop her from sleeping like that. It's on both sides.

@Morgan12 What specific Aveeno product did you use?

Thank you @Elliss2018. I love her so much, and I miss her lovely clear skin! So does she, as she was just frantic this morning. I had to hold her hands at one point as she couldn't stop rubbing her face.

My Dd (now 12 weeks) had similar from about 4 weeks. She was born in the heatwave and it really flared up in the heat. Looked very sore and was all over her face and ears. Had it very bad for two weeks.

Took her to the GP who initially said milk rash but then baby acne. They recommended Aveeno and it cleared up in days. She has lovely skin now.

Wheresthel1ght · 10/09/2018 21:10

That looks very much like how my dad's dermatitis presents. It could be a reaction to washing powder or bathing products.

I would speak to your gp rather than the health visitor and get it double checked.

Chinnychinnychinnychib · 10/09/2018 21:11

I wonder if it might be fungal - you could try some canesten on it?

Flatwhite32 · 10/09/2018 21:12

@GrumpySausage what specific Aveeno product did you use?

Eminybob · 10/09/2018 21:13

I went backwards and forwards between doctors and HVs about ds’s ever worsening baby acne. I eventually saw a specialist who said it was the worst he had ever seen and prescribed antibiotics. That cleared it up in a few days. See a dr rather than the HV and ask at your practice if they have a skin specialist.

DonnaDarko · 10/09/2018 21:13

My first thought was that it looks like irritation, and very similar to DPs eczema flare ups.

We all have sensitive skin and use aveeno .

Maria321 · 10/09/2018 21:16

Have you tried the Aveeno Baby, soothing relief moisturising cream OP?

Flatwhite32 · 10/09/2018 21:18

No I haven't @Maria321, but I'll be going out tomorrow to get some! Can you buy it in Boots?

Dadsbigsausages · 10/09/2018 21:18

I took my son to the pharmacist when he had a rash like that and they very kindly said go to the gp, it's never a waste of time for babies.

It was eczema, and it cleared up with double base gel and oat baths and was made worse by aqueous cream (either washes with or left on). He grew out of it eventually.

BifsWif · 10/09/2018 21:19

I would go to the GP, don’t put anything ‘new’ on her skin until you’ve taken medicine advice.

Poor thing, it looks sore!

Flatwhite32 · 10/09/2018 21:19

@Eminybob I'll give the GP surgery a ring tomorrow to see if I can get an appointment. Good to hear there is treatment available if needed. Did your DS's skin clear up completely?

OP posts:
BifsWif · 10/09/2018 21:19

medical*

Moody123 · 10/09/2018 21:20

Have you tried expressing some milk and putting it on her skin with a clean cotton pad? Do it 3 times a day, should clear it on a few days.
But defo take her to the doctors if your worried.
A couple of oz in the bath (to make the water cloudy) always helps too!
