to think I'm not the only person who cannot function without lists?

I have severe anxiety and OCD tendencies so like my life to be as organised as possible. I can't get through the day unless I have written a list the night before or that morning of everything I need to do. I find it therapeutic and I have a sense of achievement by the evening when I've done everything or nearly everything on the list. If I don't complete everything I just pop what I didn't complete on to a list for the next day.

AIBU to think that I'm not the only person who does this? And if you don't do it, I can highly suggest that a good list could just help you sleep better at night Grin

I love lists. I'd write lists about lists if I could.

Aquamarine1029 · 10/09/2018 17:51

I'm a big believer in lists as well. I think many people who are chronically overwhelmed and stressed would benefit from keeping a daily list.

keyboardkate · 10/09/2018 17:52

I am also a list lover.

But it rarely gets any further than writing the list!

monty09 · 10/09/2018 17:53

I don't do lists at all, my sister will write me a list and by the time I've got home I've lost it, I seem to mange just fine tho.

OlennasWimple · 10/09/2018 17:53

I live my life by lists - always have done, and I suspect I always will

crosser62 · 10/09/2018 17:53

Yes. Love lists.

Ahem, I even add things I've actually already done to my list so that I can tick it off... that's how much I love lists.

Unfortunately I have a terrible memory so I survive with lists otherwise my children wouldn't get things like a full school uniform or food to eat.

CherryAide · 10/09/2018 17:58

Oh so not just me then! I have suffered with poor mental health my whole life. Anxiety mainly. Lists are my biggest help. I agree with pp that they really can reduce that overwhelmed feeling, especially if you don't put too much on it and make sure it's achievable.

Yep! Anxiety and OCD here too. Lists help a lot.
Especially on some nice organised stationary 😁

TheCakeCrusader · 10/09/2018 18:01

I rely on lists to get anything done in my life! I mainly write them down as reminders ( in tagged groups) on my phone so that I can list things to do in order of importance and preference as well as giving myself alerts at certain times/ dates and daily reminders if necessary!

I’ve been getting so forgetful these days that I’ve just added a new listings category that remind me where I’ve put things down or hidden things (passports, items of value).

I also have a weird sense of satisfaction as I tick off/ delete things to do! Grin

CherryAide · 10/09/2018 18:01

It's a great feeling isn't it @TheCakeCrusader !!

I love making lists.
I make notes in a notebook, with a pencil, which drives my OH up the wall as he prefers to make notes on his phone or tablet. That doesn't work for me! :)

keyboardkate · 10/09/2018 18:05

If I didn't have Google Calendar to remind me of things I would be disowned by my family/friends!

I still write lists though. Although the lists are mostly aspirational. They seem to be rinse and repeat for a long while..... lazy me obv!

TheCakeCrusader · 10/09/2018 18:06

“It's a great feeling isn't it”

Very, very satisfying! 👍🏼😁

juneau · 10/09/2018 18:07

I'm a list writer and a happy ticker offer as as I do the things! It makes me much more productive and it kids people that I'm well organised, when actually I'm the opposite. Lists are the only thing between me and disorganised chaos Grin.

itsstillgood · 10/09/2018 18:09

I home educate one of my children, do most stuff round the house, run a business (that has quite a diverse range of tasks), study part time and do a lot of voluntary work/organisation.

Yanbu I really need lists! Lists keep all the balls in the air and allow me to pass stuff on to others when I need to. Life is busy but wouldn't have it any other way, love my life, but organisation is key to things running smoothly and still having time for hobbies/relaxing (although i like to keep lists of books read/craft projects done/places visited - lists are a bit of a hobby Grin)

Billben · 10/09/2018 18:10

I think many people who are chronically overwhelmed and stressed would benefit from keeping a daily list.

I’m one of those people.

FluffyMcCloud · 10/09/2018 18:13

Lists are my coping mechanism for anxiety too. I love a list. I’ve been known to write a list of what lists I need to write Grin

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 10/09/2018 18:13

Item 1 on the list should always be “write list” as then you get to tick it off!

JLG19 · 10/09/2018 18:15

I love lists for being organised (eg shopping, or packing for a holiday) but had never thought of using a daily list!

CherryAide · 10/09/2018 18:15

@JLG19 it will change your life!

Gardai · 10/09/2018 18:16

I love lists.
If I go out without my list I may as well go home.
I photograph my lists just in case I lose them when I’m out

Nikephorus · 10/09/2018 18:16

I love lists. I'd write lists about lists if I could.
You'd have a bestseller if you did! I love lists. They keep my head clear & me organised.

SongforSal · 10/09/2018 18:17

Dp frequently takes the piss out me for this. Avid and unapologetic list fan here!

CherryAide · 10/09/2018 18:17

@SongforSal he's missing out!

I honestly didn't realise this was a thing. Makes me feel a lot more normal and proud of my list making skills (I have made some pretty epic ones in the past!)

I love lists. Love ‘em
