Neighbours dog shitting on my lawn, fed up.

I've asked before about this but I'm asking again as i'm just so pissed.

There's some flats down the road, 2 separate tenants keep letting their dogs wee and poo on our front lawn, they also do it to another neighbour. Our lawn is yellow and patchy as they have 2 dogs each and they do it 3 or 4 times a day each. I am picking up about 6 or 7 poos a day.

Initially I put them in our bin but i'm so tired, today I've started bagging them up and putting them outside the flats on their car park and I've put "dog shit back to the flats, ta" on the bag.

I don't know WHERE in the flats they live, I know who they are by appearance but they really are aggressive looking, I don't feel safe approaching them.

I've asked our landlord if we can have fences, apparently we can't according to something to do with the house, it's a new build. I've put stones up so that it's quite clearly my front garden. I also put flowers in pots but their dogs weed all over them so they stunk and went yellowy and died.

I could cry, today my son slipped in the shit and I've had to put his shoes in the wash again. I don't want to do all this, I don't have bloody dogs.

I've just emailed the housing association who owns their flats and described them and the dogs, is there anything else I can do?

I don't really want to push our landlord too much as she's very poorly at the moment.

Please don’t use Jeyes fluid, as it is extremely dangerous to cats.

m00rfarm · 10/09/2018 18:10

I live in Portugal and we have a cat that comes into our bedroom through the roof terrace windows, into the house and pisses everywhere. On the curtains, on clothes, on suitcases - some items I have had cleaned and others I had to throw away. it also came onto the roof terrace and pissed all over the cushions on our outdoor furniture. I got a bottle of some green gel stuff from the local pet shop which works for dogs and cats, and the cat no longer crosses the "border". I have also fixed some trellis between the patio doors so we can have the doors open, but the cat is not coming onto the terrace at all now, and I replace the green gel every two or three days.

I'm googling images for inspiration OP.

At the mo i'm looking at ''barriers made of planters'':

www.google.co.uk/search?biw=1109&bih=547&tbm=isch&sa=1&ei=JKWWW5XkEqbLgAbJ4aOQAw&q=barrier+made+of+planters&oq=barrier+made+of+planters&gs_l=img.3...11334.17945.0.18165.50.29.0.3.3.0.127.1788.25j2.27.0....0...1c.1.64.img..26.15.902...0j0i67k1j0i8i30k1j0i24k1.0.of_l8-CeYeU

I know a lot of these are a bit enormous. I'll keep at it ...

''barriers made of plant pots''

Some of the wooden 'box' or 'trough' type things planted up, put end to end and maybe put on bricks for height might work?

RandomMess · 10/09/2018 18:15

Get a super soaker water pistol squirt the dog and the owner!!! It is private property end of...

Pot barriers look good too.

Ansumpasty · 10/09/2018 18:20

I apologise if this has been suggested, but often, you can get around the ‘no fence’ rule will a low hedge.
Then, in the soil around the hedge, sprinkle chilli powder. I’m not sure if this affects the growth of the hedge, just something that I’ve read to repel dogs!

Your son slipping in it is just unacceptable

SPARKLYSTARSHINESBRIGHT · 10/09/2018 20:09

How wide is your garden, you could plant pyracantha, it's evergreen, very spiky, has white little flowers in the summer and beautiful berries in the autumn. They grow up to 2 metres but you can cut them lower, I would tie shoots sideways to create your barrier. It would be a long term solution which would look nice. i put some up to stop next door neighbours kids climbing over our fence, they haven't tried since!

Maelstrop · 10/09/2018 20:15

Posts at all corners. Chicken wire or that cheap plastic stuff used at roadworks wrapped round, nailed into place so dogs can’t get on. Leave a gap so you can access the lawn as needed. And move your bin so they can’t use it, they can bloody well carry it home like I do if I can’t find an actual dog poo bin. Wankers.

ohshitonit · 14/09/2018 12:17

thanks all!

So we are either getting planters/posts and doing what you've all said when i've come off my night shifts.

I returned a bag of poo yesterday, it disappeared.

I have now come in to 4 x huge poos dotted about my lawn. Do I take them up to their carpark and leave them there with a note? don't want to cause trouble with other residents...but i don't want them in my bin they are like diarrhea-ish and stink!

I'm not expert but I'm sure dogs are not permitted in flats. Unless the flat is privately owned that is.
Not true. It depends on the terms of the lease/landlord. My flat is in a cul de sac of council blocks (in my 4-flat block there are 2 owners and 2 council tenant flats) - my lease (I'm an owner) says I can have, I think (haven't read it for a few years) 2 pets. In my road many of the council tenants have dogs and cats - one of the private renters has 5 cats in a 2-bedroomed flat - not sure where she puts them all and this is definitely breaking the terms of the lease but I expect her landlord, who has bought it leasehold from the council years ago, hasn't read it himself.

Snitzelvoncrumb · 14/09/2018 12:28

I know someone who used wooden skewers to deter dogs. They put the sharp end down into the dirt, so it doesn't hurt the dogs feet, but had them at random spots on the lawn, its uncomfortable for the dogs to walk on. They also got their children to hide and turn the sprinkler on to wet the dogs.

Lucisky · 14/09/2018 12:40

I would second the person who suggested plastic netting. I use it in our garden to keep the dog off certain areas. You can get it from a garden centre, or amazon also sell netting and stake combos. For the plastic netting, which is quite rigid, you can use bamboo sticks as fence posts. It comes in varying heights and is usually sold off large rolls.
I would also take photos of the mess (and the people if you can do it without getting into an altercation) and inform the dog warden. Ours was very helpful when we had a similar problem in a child's play area. The culprit was caught by the wardens detective work, so I was impressed.
When I had cats, in order to stop them digging up bedding plants, I used to lay holly cuttings round the plants. Perhaps a lot of prickly plant cutting spread over the lawn will make it too uncomfortable for the dog? Won't look very attractive, but better than a load of shit.

MissMisery · 14/09/2018 13:20

I feel your pain OP. Every day I have to pick our neighbours cat shit up off our lawn. So bloody sick of it.
Yesterday I thought maybe I would throw our dogs shit over the fence for them to pick up. We could call it quits then Angry

eelbecomingforyou · 14/09/2018 13:23

God, some people are just foul. I feel for you.

Firsttimer1234 · 14/09/2018 13:33

Collect the poo up and put it on their doorstep. They'd soon stop

thetemptationofchocolate · 14/09/2018 13:50

If you want to erect a temporary fence, then these posts are your friend. The spike goes into the ground and you could tie netting or chicken wire or something to the posts.
They are easy to remove.

HoleyCoMoley · 14/09/2018 13:54

Can you film it or take photo, contact dog warden, police and environmental health, it's against the law to allow dog fouling. Dirty bastards. I'd also erect some sort of temporary fence. Name and shame in the local newspaper.

NicoAndTheNiners · 14/09/2018 13:57

I’d take the poo back for sure but I wouldn’t leave it in the car park. I’d stalk them back to find which flat they’re in and every single pp would be returned and shaken out of the bag onto the floor right outside their flat. Or posted in the bag through the letter box. Bonus points if you can shake it out the bag through the letter box onto their hall floor without getting shit on your hands. Every single time.

tillytrotter1 · 14/09/2018 14:08

CCTV and the phone number of environmental health department, also a high powered hose which might also 'accidentally' splash the owners.

FloralCup · 14/09/2018 14:25

I'd be tempted to buy some orange garden mesh, lay it over the lawn, and create a sign saying "poisonous lawn treatment - keep animals off!"
Once the owners and dogs get into a new routine the problem may stop (for you, it'll just move on to some other unfortunate neighbour)

ohshitonit · 17/09/2018 23:47

UPDATE

I returned all the poo for 2 days, the other residents went really angry and said they shouldn't pay the price for other people's behaviour and I should just throw it in the bin, but I quite simply told them I'd seal it but if they are unhappy they need to tell the people doing it.
The housing association people got back to me and have send a letter out to them all.
The peer pressure seems to have worked as the two who were walking the dog on our lawn has stopped and the other one has been evicted (for another reason).

Also I got a cheap little fence about 6 inches tall that clips together and it's a bit pointy.

I'm quite annoyed at the attitudes of the other residents, I don't get why I should be putting it in my bin, my garden is private property but their communal bin area isn't but whatever, it's sorted now.
Thank you all.

I think Jeyes fluid is a good suggestion as another poster said, also have you tried a powerful water gun? Fill it with the Jeyes fluid and aim for the owner whilst they stand on your garden whilst waiting for their hound to take a dump. Those potato guns are quite good too (aim for the ear lobes - human, not canine)
