To ask the bakers out there...

...if there’s a coveted online baking supplies store you love?

A friend of mine is a fantastic baker and has offered to bake a cake for my son’s christening. I was very grateful and agreed, saying she could make something as simple as she fancied. Fast forward a few weeks and she’s gone to town! Two ters, different colours, fondant animals - the works! It’s going to be wonderful and I can’t wait to see it.

She’s refusing to let me pay her but I think it would have cost her quite a bit. So, along with the obligatory bottle of gin, I’d like to get her a voucher for a baking supplies store so she can treat herself to some fancy new kit (or, at the very least, replenish her supplies!) to say thank you.

But I’m new to this. Does such an online world exist? What is the John Lewis of baking supplies? What gift would you appreciate?

Thanks!

Hobbycraft is usually my first port of call for any baking supplies I need Smile

EeeSheWasThin · 09/09/2018 18:55

Cake decorating company, Squires and cake stuff are my favourites.

Would do links but my iPad isn’t playing!

HobNobcentral · 09/09/2018 19:10

Lakeland. Interesting stuff, option to buy something else she might want. ( A friend tried to offload a bunch of stuff when her MIL died. It was nice of her to think of me but I already had most of it. )

And they have wonderful customer service.

Amazon - the equipment is the expensive part and there’s lots on there.

SpookyMuldersMum · 09/09/2018 19:28

Lakeland is great.

Ginmakesitallok · 09/09/2018 19:31

Lakeland stuff is great. The favourite things I have are 2 of these www.lakeland.co.uk/15170/My-Kitchen-12-Cup-Mini-Sandwich-Tin though website says they are no longer available!!!

Teaonthelawn · 09/09/2018 19:32

Lakeland - lots of things for the home baker - tins, colours, flavourings.
Squires - keep more specialist ingredients and equipment - which you might have difficulty finding elsewhere.

EastDulwichWife · 09/09/2018 19:33

@eeeshewasthin My life! I’ve just been looking at the Squires website. It’s a black hole of confectionery madness! I could get into this...

Those mini sandwich tin trays are adorable!

I think I’ll go with the majority and choose Lakeland (and perhaps end up spending a small fortune on things I don’t need at the same time...)!

I love this online shop...Maybe you check about a gift card?

Darkstar4855 · 09/09/2018 19:55

I use cakecraftshop, they have a huge range of icing/decoration supplies and equipment at reasonable prices and deliver quickly. However I think she would appreciate the gesture whichever company you choose.

EnglishRose13 · 09/09/2018 20:12

I like

I think Lakeland is a very good idea.

greendale17 · 09/09/2018 20:28

Lakeland or Squires- both invaluable to the cooks and bakers I know

HobNobcentral · 09/09/2018 20:35

I feel a bit like a Drug pusher…Lakeland is addictive…

Usernc12 · 09/09/2018 20:35

Bakery Bits - bread but really interesting bits & pieces.

I have to say Lakeland is my least favourite place - very expensive and not an amazing selection Blush

WickedGoodDoge · 09/09/2018 20:40

Ditto to cakecraftshop. I also really like Almond Art.

EastDulwichWife · 10/09/2018 11:50

Thank you everyone! Some excellent options and I’m really tempted to get into baking. I want so much of this kit!
