To ask how to play CDs 'wirelessly'

I know I'm BU posting for traffic but I didn't know where else to post. I've googled extensively but can't seem to work it out.
How do I use my CDs with a wireless music player? I have 100s of them, my CD player broke a few months ago and I know i need to get up to speed with technology and buy a wireless music player but can't work out how to add music from CDs and play using my android phone.
Can anyone explain, simply, if this is possible and how?

You can only play CDs with a CD player.

If you want to store the music electronically so you can play it on a phone / MP3 player / computer you will have to either download them as MP3s (paying for them if you want them legally), rip the CDs to a computer (not legal but not exactly the crime of the century) or use one of the streaming services like Spotify or Amazon Music which will let you play pretty much any song you like for a monthly fee. Personally I got rid of all my CDs and use Amazon Musicbugsnorthdown

... not sure WHAT that autocorrect was about!

Ah great, thanks for taking the time to reply Peachgreen. I can't find that Amazon service though 😂
If I did rip them to pc is there a way to play them on a wireless speaker, ideally using my phone?

Firstly you need to rip your CD’s. If you want to play your ripped music from your phone to play on a wireless speaker (most probably Bluetooth) then you need to store the ripped music on your phone and then connect to a Bluetooth enabled speaker to play your music.

I ripped most of my CD’s years ago and now I mostly buy music digitally. I use a program (iTunes) to organise my files (they are stored directly onto an external and backed up onto another external) and the music is synced with my iPad and iPhone. In the future i will probably buy a network drive because I use my Mac less and less and it makes more sense to sync via iCloud to a network drive then phaff about with a desktop. I won’t store my entire music library to iCloud (only music purchased via iTunes) because that’s at least 50gb and I prefer to have my music and photos stored locally.

Go to one of those specialist hifi shops and ask their advice because what most suits you is dependent on the size of your collection, preferences, tech savvy, budget etc.

If you rip them to your PC then you can't play them via your phone, you would need to play them from your PC to a speaker, assuming your PC has bluetooth.

You are allowed to make copies for your own use.

RIP your cds to your pc then upload to google play music. You can then either download them all to your phone to play any time or stream them via the google play app then cast them to a WiFi speaker. Or rip and then install Plex server on your pc and Plex app on your phone and cast to speaker. Small fee for Plex app. Google play music is free, limited to 50,000 tracks and needs a debit/credit card just in case you decide to download music plus a google account.

As long you’ve got vaguely mainstream musical tastes Spotify solves this problem for £10 a month and it’s live changingly brilliant.

Speaker wise I really like our Sonos system but there are cheaper options for Bluetooth only.

Firesuit · 09/09/2018 15:48

If you rip them to your PC then you can't play them via your phone, you would need to play them from your PC to a speaker, assuming your PC has bluetooth.

Once they are on the PC in they can be copied to an SD card on the phone.

GruffaloStick · 09/09/2018 16:10

Thank you all so much. Looks like there are different options which is why I'm getting confused.
My music taste is rather diverse, I've just seen that Spotify offer a free trial so it's worth a go to see if it can match my CD collection. I very rarely use the pc these days so it would be much more convenient to play from my phone.
Are sonos the best wireless speakers?
Thanks again

I recently did this for mine. I uploaded to iTunes On laptop (as mentioned above) and copied the cds to there. To e.g. them on my phone, because it's android, I loaded Google music onto my laptop and phone and synced to iTunes (it has this function). The you can either play from the Google music cloud or download to your device for offline. It's a bit long winded but simple enough.

80sMum · 09/09/2018 16:17

I pulled all mine onto a micro sd card via my laptop and use the sd card in my phone for extra photos storage as well as for music. It's then simply a matter of getting a Bluetooth speaker and pairing it with your phone. I use a Bose mini speaker.
