Ordering takeaway to a hotel

noenergy · 08/09/2018 19:33

Have read on a thread where someone ordered takeaway to the hotel they were staying in.

I have never done this and will be away next weekend to the northeast with the kids. So thinking of doing this.

So how does it work? Do you have to go outside and wait for the delivery driver or would they bring it in?

They usually bring it the the hotel foyer, not to your room.

soulrider · 08/09/2018 19:35

Normally will bring it to reception, and then call you (if travelodge type place where no phones) or get reception to call your room.

Think about cutlery, we once decided to have a change from pizza and got thai food and had to eat it with teaspoons Grin

I'm sure you could pop something in the notes that you'd like it brought to the room if possible.

@soulrider good point about cutlery, will order carefully.

Thanks for info everyone, was clueless as never fine it before.

If the hotel has a cafe or restaurant they should be able to rustle up a plate/knife fork etc. I worked hotel reception and would often ring up to a room to say takeaway was here, then go grab plates etc to go with it.

Agree with others - they normally bring it to reception then call your mobile.
I would seriously consider bringing some plastic plates and cutlery with you in your suitcase. You don’t realise quite how limiting it is, choice wise, to order a takeaway that requires no cutlery! Basically pizza or fried chicken! Indian/Chinese is basically off the menu without cutlery.

noctu · 08/09/2018 20:38

And don’t forget a bottle opener, if you’re planning on a few beers.

purplepandas · 08/09/2018 20:39

We do this and agree re plates and cutlery. Some hotels will charge for this. One said it would but didn't.

Pinkyyy · 08/09/2018 20:53

Done this many times, they usually ring you when they're in reception. Hotels are usually happy to provide plates and cutlery if needed

arranfan · 08/09/2018 21:05

If it's a hotel they're probably fine about you eating in a room. I've stayed in B&Bs where there were notices in all of the rooms asking you to eat takeaways in the breakfast room because of the smell and to let them know so they could leave out plates/cutlery.

Ask the takeaway for forks and extra trays.Or just go down to reception and ask for plates and cutlery.

We never had a problem,we order a lot when we stay in hotels

I love doing this. It seems entirely decadent. We did it in New York once and had Chinese in bed in those white boxes. Was amazing.
