I am in bed with a flu like virus.

DP went to the shop to get pancake ingredients and apparently couldn’t find nasal spray or maple syrup.

Who the flip has golden syrup on pancakes? Should I LTB?

The nasal spray is inexcusable though, unless they had run out, in which case he should have gone to Superdrug/Pharmacist/Boots/another supermarket if there is one nearby.

Depends where you live I guess, but the supermarkets (Sainsburys/Tesco etc ) near me all do and they also sell their own brand versions too (of the proper pure stuff from Canada). Aldi sell Maple Syrup too: www.goodhousekeeping.co.uk/institute/food-reviews/maple-syrup

As you point out, you have to make sure it says Maple Syrup and has that as the only ingredient - the Maple flavour stuff is just invert sugar syrup with flavourings added.

Here in Canada the real stuff is available all year, it's pricey if you don't make your own

Love maple syrup, and birch syrup. We make our own.

We like agave nectar on pancakes and porridge. Delish.

Two uses only for golden syrup, parkin for bonfire night and quick, sticky chocolate sauce. Heat the syrup gently, add cocoa powder, quick stir and use immediately over ice-cream, luscious!

As a slightly off topic thread hijack has anyone tried syrup on the plate first then hot pancake on top? Saw it on Bosch (Amazon Show) works amazingly well!

A genius use for golden syrup - if a child has to take tablets, shove said tablet in a teaspoon of golden syrup.

He’s currently lying in bed snoring loudly. Apparently he’s going to pop to Waitrose to get maple syrup for breakfast. Our local shops are crap - Aldi, Lidl and Co-Op. I don’t know why he didn’t get Nutella at least!

I'm in two minds here. He absolutely should have got what you asked for and there is no way that golden syrup and maple syrup are the same. However, golden syrup is far far nicer than maple syrup so UADU to have asked for it in the first place. Mmm mmm golden syrup on eggy bread (French toast). And yes to a golden syrup sandwich, but if you only butter one slice of bread and then spread it thickly with golden syrup, put the unbuttered side on, then it over and leave it a few minutes while you make your cup of tea, it soaks into the bread and goes all crispy yummy....
