To find skin routines a con?

I remember we use to be always told to cleanse, tone, moisturise. Now we have to double cleanse (two different cleansers), tone, moisturise, prime, serum, facial oils, BB cream, night cream, eye cream (obviously not all in that order).
AIBU to think we being conned into buying more and more or does anyone actually find it works?
At the minute I cleanse (once), moisturise, eye cream and occasionally prime. It cost me enough but when I see other ladies with lovely skin/make up I do wonder is it their skincare routine?

“ Everyone knows flawless no lines post 40 is Botox!!”

Right, but part of the idea of Botox is that people, upon meeting you, won’t think you are 40+.

I also disagree with the PP earlier who said that everyone looks their age. Some people genuinely look much younger than they are. I guess it can work in the reverse too but i think that’s more a phenomenon of younger people (teens, that sort of age).

But I think a lot of it is a misconception about ageing. I don't care if I look my age, I just don't want to look shit, regardless of the age I'm at.

I'm happy with "wrinkles", they're inevitable if you're lucky enough to be alive long enough to get them. I'm not happy with uneven skin tone, large pores and sagging jowls (don't have the jowls... yet) so I use medically prescribed products to combat them, like prescription retinol and juvederm. I'd rather spend the money on the stuff that I know will 100% make a difference, than fritter the money away on expensive smelling creams that won't make a difference.
