How did that happen?!

I’m in my early thirties and apart from being very short on a small frame I think I look every bit my age Sad.

I bought a scratch card at the same time as petrol and they asked for id.

AIBU to think they must have a quota to fill?

Was it definitely because of the scratch card?

CocoDeMoll · 08/09/2018 07:59

I doubt it was for the bag of skittles I bought Grin

It would have been for the petrol.

I'm 40 next year and got asked for ID buying peach schnapps the other week. Absolutely loved it Grin

ID for petrol? Confused

Well people can drive from 17, as for having a baby, possible from 14, younger even...and they don't know it's yours, you could be big sister, aunt etc. Meh Confused

ItWentInMyEye · 08/09/2018 08:08

I was asked for ID for a lottery ticket a few months ago! I'm 30! I didn't have any on me so she wouldn't sell me one, but was happy to sell me gloss and emulsion?

Move2WY · 08/09/2018 08:10

You only need to be 16?to buy a scratchcard.

Person who ID’d you has no common sense.

Padparadscha · 08/09/2018 08:16

I keep getting ID’d in one supermarket, one worker has done it several times - this is with two children, so they must think I started having them at 11 or younger Confused.

I’ve worked in a shop, I hated the ID aspect of it as I was always ‘safe then sorry’, but there’s a line between over cautious and not using common sense.

PeePeeHula · 08/09/2018 08:20

I'm in my late thirties and was IDed for buying lotto tickets a few days ago. Maybe there is a push on asking for ID right now. 🤷 I'm enjoying it, it's less annoying the older you get! 😂

abigamarone · 08/09/2018 08:20

You have to be 16 to buy a scratch card.
You have to look over 25 to not get asked for ID.

I've got a 22-year old who could pass for over 25.

It's not that they have a quota as such, but if they've not made any refusals in the last month they'd be spoken to.

They've also probably recently done their challenge 25 training, the one that tells them they can face unlimited fine if found to be selling to underage.
Or they could have recently failed a test purchase.

CocoDeMoll · 08/09/2018 08:22

I don’t think I look under 25 but I’ll take it Grin

My DS’ teacher was asked for ID when she brought some ibuprofen at the supermarket 😂on her way home from work!

I’m bloody sick of getting ID’d for sugary/caffeinated drinks at the age of 26. I’m always Hmm at the cashier when they ask me and smile sarcastically when they’re stumped at my age. They never expect me to have ID or be old enough, I can see it in their faces. One older lady was all ‘ohh children can’t have sugary drinks any more so I’ll need to see your ID!’. I felt like saying a few obscenities but kept my cool. Then the other week I got ID’d for an ashtray. Yes, I actually needed to prove my age to buy what is essentially a glorified plastic bowlGrin

JynxaSmoochum · 08/09/2018 08:31

I had my alcohol consfiscated at the till earlier this year because I didn't have my ID on me that day.

I was old enough to buy it before the Millenium. I was 25 over a decade ago.

Several years ago, I was IDed for scissors... I was 32, with my toddler and 7 months pregnant with a very visible bump and creaking around with SPD. I felt 82.

When I have my ID on me, it normally gets much scowling and looks up and down as the year really wasn't what they expected 😂

DoYouLikeHueyLewisandTheNews · 08/09/2018 08:33

I'm in my mid 30s and have been ID'd a few times, often with one bottle of wine in a huge weekly shop, with my toddler in the trolley and car keys in my hand. I'm short, I look young but not ridiculously so, they get fined if they slip up or reprimanded if a mystery shopper so I don't really mind. Never been asked when it's come in a delivery though.

Normally they're apologetic or make a friendly joke once they see my 1980s DOB. It must be annoying for them having to ask when they can blatantly tell the person is over 18 but potentially under 25/30. I swear as I get older so does the age they're supposed to ask. It'll be anyone who looks under 40 soon. That would be frustrating for the shop staff more than us as I bet they get grief.

OftenHangry · 08/09/2018 08:46

I am getting IDd often (Thank you shopworkers😁) and I don't mind. These policies are there for a reason and someome else's safety and shops and restairants get inspectors in regularly. It can be annoying but once you get into a habbit of having an ID on you at all times, like carrying it in a wallet, it stops being annoying.
Take it as a compliment Wink

OftenHangry · 08/09/2018 08:48

Never been asked when it's come in a delivery though.

I was nad he was so apologetic Grin
"I am sorry I have to ask for ID, not that you look that young... OH! Like you do look young, but not under 18... I am so sorry, you know what I am talking about... Sorry"
😂 I laughed so much.
