50s, fit and healthy, had blood tests etc via GP - all okay, but feel more tired than I think I should. Not exhausted /unable to function, just weary and wanting to be more energetic.

Buckfast.

ItsABlusteryDay · 07/09/2018 23:36

These have helped me with tiredness, also a magnesium salt soak a couple of times a week.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 08/09/2018 08:23

Ah I thought iron (wrongly )

I think this crushing fatigue is very common with women of a certain age

I have also done a lifestyle overhaul this year , mostly successful

BIWI · 08/09/2018 08:25

You've said what your diet is - but not said what your meals are.

What, for example, did you eat yesterday?

CrispbuttyNo1 · 08/09/2018 15:26

That sounds like a very low carb diet. Which will cause lethargy and tiredness.

Gottagetmoving · 08/09/2018 15:32

I went through a period of being tired like that. Turned out I was not hydrated enough. I drank more water every day and that cured it.

MariaWaria · 08/09/2018 19:19

B1WI

Here's what I ate today, which is fairly typical.

Breakfast: Oats, yoghurt, fruit (usually pear or banana), sometimes nuts.
Lunch: Homemade vegetable soup and a repeat of breakfast.
Dinner: Salmon with roasted vegetables (peppers, tomatoes, broccoli, courgettes, red onion)

How does that sound?

What's your weight like, is there a possibility that you're underweight ? What you're eating sounds healthy but maybe you're lacking calories. Try somewhere like chronometer to see if you're meeting your caloric intake. This will also take into account your height, weight, age, activity levels etc. Maybe your body just needs more ? How about your stress levels, this can make you feel utterly crap Thanks

CrispbuttyNo1 · 08/09/2018 21:24

It’s a healthy diet if you are trying to lose weight, but it’s too low in carbs. You need them for energy.

ToffeeSauce · 08/09/2018 21:31

DHEA! It’s a hormone supplement I was prescribed. Has seriously changed my life.

StepAwayFromGoogle · 08/09/2018 21:36

Have you tried ubiquinol, OP? It really made a difference to my energy levels.

FermatsTheorem · 08/09/2018 21:36

YY to checking thyroid. Thyroid problems (in either direction) leave you feeling like you're wading through treacle. Backwards, in waders.

Also - how was your menopause (I'm presuming when you say you're 50s that you've been through the menopause). I found that it completely fucked up my sleep - insomnia on top of the hot flushes (you mention not being able to get more than 6 hours sleep), and I just felt exhausted the whole time. HRT has been a complete wonder drug for me (obviously ignore this if it's clinically contra-indicated for you).

SeamstressfromTreacleMineRoad · 08/09/2018 21:40

Old fashioned remedy that has worked for me at various times over the years when I've felt very run down - Brewer's yeast tablets.

You can get then from Holland & Barrett or similar shops, or online. They've really helped me to feel less tired - worth a try..?

MadamBatty · 08/09/2018 21:42

Surprised nobody had mentioned it yet. If you’re in your 50s hrt

BIWI · 08/09/2018 22:01

It looks lovely @MariaWaria! However it's low in protein and (I'm guessing) also pretty low in fat. it could be simply that you need more calories from those macronutrients to give you more energy.

fairiesandelves · 08/09/2018 23:23

Agree with BIWI sounds nice but quite low in protein and iron

BlackBeltInChildWrangling · 08/09/2018 23:31

I can recommend both Floradix and Ton Was.

MNOverinvestor · 09/09/2018 08:07

My sleep improved enormously after I swapped my thin curtains for ones with a blackout lining.

MariaWaria · 10/09/2018 07:44

Thanks for the further comments, all.

Menopause was okay - all done and dusted now would not consider HRT.

Not trying to lose weight and agree my diet may be low on protein/iron. Reluctant to take one of the irons potions. Floradix etc as in the past I've ended up with black teeth - not pretty. Don't think diet is low in fat as tend to put butter on vegetables and have full-fat yoghurt and milk.

Very few stress issues thankfully.

Some darker curtains may be worth a try.

Brewers yeast - had forgotten about that. Wonder why it fell from favour. Always remember there being a big jar of them when I lived with parents.May be worth a try.

Going to request a print out of my blood results today.

I’ve never got on with iron tablets etc but spa tone was ok for me

iamnotanumber10 · 10/09/2018 22:38

Exercise, low booze intake and afternoon nap when you can

BlackBeltInChildWrangling · 11/09/2018 00:57

I have never known that with Floradix.

irunlikeahipoo · 11/09/2018 04:39

fairiesandelves

If you have gut problems gallstones or stomach surgery then it can affect the affetivness of taking tablets
Liquid or injections is much better
Injecting B12 is fine very easy to do

fairiesandelves · 11/09/2018 17:11

Thanks irunlikeahipo I currently pay £40 per b12 jab so where can I source them myself please. Thanks
