To apply for a new job after a week?

Started a new job. I love the actual work or at least I think I will from what I've seen this week. Really lovely team and place to work but I have a big commute (almost 3 hours a day sat in traffic).

I've just seen the same job advertised in my local hospital. Would Ibu to apply for a new job when I've only been in my new job a week?

No.

Also: I work in the NHS. Does any one know if my current line manager will be notified if I apply for a job in a different trust?

I'd do it. And just be very apologetic to my current boss about it if I got the job.

Bippitybo · 07/09/2018 18:02

KitKat1985 would you tell your current boss that you are applying for the job before you put in an application?

No, it's not U. I say go for it.

I have both worked and recruited in the NHS, your current manager won't know if you apply for another job, just put you don't want them to contact your references prior to interview.

Be clear on your form why you're wanting to leave a job so soon after starting, as it doesn't always look good on paper to do so. NHS shortlisting is all done blind so they won't know where you live to put it all together.

Your line manager may not be thrilled if you are successful as it takes time and effort to recruit someone but you wouldn't be the first to do it and on a personal level they will likely get it, even if they don't like it as a manager.

Do it. You would be mad not to. How much does your commute cost?

User467 · 07/09/2018 18:26

You have to put your current line manager down as a reference and you should inform them of this before you do it

When I filled out the NHS applications it asked about the current line manager it also asked for permission to contact them before the interview I checked No and still got the job.
Apply life is too short to sit in traffic 3 hours a day. If you get an interview wait till you are offered the job then tell you manager, you have to work a months notice anyway. I'd use the 3 hours in traffic as just too much to cope with everyday as the reason you are going when asked.

Do it, but if successful serve your notice and explain that the journey is the reason for moving.

Good luck!

Thanks all.

I've started the application so I'll go for it and see what happens Grin

AlexaC my manager doesn't have a very nice reputation so I don't think she's going to be the type to get in on a personal level sadly.
