Cauliflower / broccoli stalks...?

Stickywhitelovepiss · 06/09/2018 19:27

My husband (pushing 60) is happy to eat cauliflower / broccoli florets but not stalks I eat them up instead. THEY TASTE JUST THE SAME.

Why is this? Can anyone identify? I just don't get this at all...

I don't eat the stalks and only one of my children don't seem to be fussed by them. Usually hid them in spaghetti bol or used them to make soup with.

I buy frozen broccoli now. Problem solved.

DH and I both like the stalk and the floret the same. DC will only eat the stalks.
I go out of my way to buy long-stalked broccoli Grin

Be thankful your husband eats broccoli!

Namethecat · 06/09/2018 20:50

My dh is the same. Happy because I eat them raw.

BlueSuffragette · 06/09/2018 21:19

My dogs love to crunch raw broccoli stems as a treat.

Stalks are minging!

YouBoggleMyMind · 06/09/2018 21:32

Stalks are gross and don't taste the same (Imo)

Ooh yum, the inner bit of a stalk is delicious raw. I dip hem in a bit of salt and eat them when I prep veg for meals.

PrimalLass · 06/09/2018 21:35

The stalks are the best bit. You can keep the bitty, florety fluff.

I eat them raw.

Loyaultemelie · 06/09/2018 21:46

But they are the best bit ShockShock

KC225 · 06/09/2018 22:14

Stalks are rank. Even the guinea pigs don't eat stalks. Only fit for the compost.

Mintylicious · 06/09/2018 22:16

I eat cauliflower and broccoli stalks - but not mushroom ones! they must be pulled out and the mushrooms peeled.

It drives DH mad.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 06/09/2018 22:32

Our guinea pigs will eat broccoli stems but won;t entertain cauliflower.

Tenderstem is gorgeous roasted

tillytrotter1 · 06/09/2018 22:39

Broccoli stalks make a wonderful soup with stilton cheese and a few almonds.

Twotabbycats · 06/09/2018 23:01

Do you mean the long thick stalk at the bottom or the individual floret stalks? I wouldn't normally serve the thick stalk though I agree it tastes fine if you trim it, and I often use in soup.

Broccoli is very poor where I am at the moment, so not buying it... now want broccoli soup
