Colleague making me feel physically sick?

Every morning colleague gets a big cooked breakfast to eat at her desk (next to me) and as soon as she sits down she turns the desk fan on.

So literally the smell of the breakfast is being blasted into my face. It makes me gag.

I darent say anything as she’s so ridiculously sensitive.

Am I acting like a princess?

I’d say “I’m going to have to turn your fan off as the smell of your food is making me feel sick.” I have a sickness phobia that is so bad it over rides any fear of upsetting someone - who in your case OP i think is unreasonable

Dillydallyer · 09/09/2018 08:25

“Can you turn your fan off please, Susan. It’s blowing the smell of your breakfast over here and making me feel a bit sick, to be honest.”

Not hard.

Or perhaps ask her to point fan away from you.

MulticolourMophead · 09/09/2018 13:28

A lot of us eat at desks while we work. I have a bacon roll once a month as a breakfast treat. It doesn't smell, and I'm always considerate of smelly foods. We do have a small kitchen but it can't hold all the staff. Many of us eat lunch at desks as we are allowed to surf the net on breaks, although sometimes I will go for a walk.

Let us know how you get off tomorrow.
Are you going to ask her to turn the fan off while she’s eating, or are going to try to discover something she hates the smell of and zap her with that?
Maybe you could decide your hair needs spraying every lunchtime if she refuses to listen to you... plus you need to put on some deodorant, oh and perfume!!!
...a strong smelling nail polish... you need to fix something with glue!!! Lots of options when you put your mind to it🤔😀

Wear the same socks and shoes for a week and then put your feet up on the desk! 😱🤢🤮

Maisymoo22 · 09/09/2018 13:52

... try and do a smelly fart😷🤭

Spray air freshener as she is doing it.

Spotted this in the library this morning and thought of this thread. It just comes down to having a bit of consideration for other people dunnit?

This is funny

I used to feel the same way about the sound of cereal being eaten next to me at work

EthelThePiratesDaughter · 11/09/2018 17:42

You shouldn't be eating anything hot, smelly or noisy, or anything that requires cutlery at your desk IMO. (Possible exception for yoghurts.)

If your employer effectively requires you to eat at your desk, consider looking for a new job.

Maisymoo22 · 11/09/2018 17:53

Are you going to tell us if you confronted Gobzilla yet op?
We’re all dying to know.

SilverySurfer · 11/09/2018 18:29

How about buying your own fan and blasting the smell back in her direction? Job done.
