Hi everyone, posting in AIBU for traffic...
It’s my wonderful hubbys 60th birthday soon, we’ve been married 31 years and he has been the most amazing husband, father, son and brother and I want it to be really special for him.
We have arranged a party for him but I’m racking my brain trying to think of a unusual very special present that I can buy him.
I know he’s my husband and I should know what to buy him but it’s been 6 months since I’ve started planning but just drawing a blank.
Thank you so much x

Running shoes and a parkrun barcode.

A five star weekend away to [insert name of beautiful European City]?

(Check British Airways Holidays - some real bargains)

Special in what way? What is he interested in, what are his hobbies?

knittingdad · 06/09/2018 12:44

This sort of thing would appeal to me, but you've not said anything about your husbands interests.

It would help if you could mention any hobbies/interests he has if you want suggestions beyond what you'd get if you googled 'gifts for 60 year old man'.

My DH turned a big milestone bd last year and I got him tickets and hotel package for a sports event he's a fan of and a signed framed poster of one of his favorite bands for his workshop wall.

Scaredformygirl · 06/09/2018 13:01

That’s the problem, he’s never had much in the way of interests as he’s worked hard all of his life and put everyone else first.
He loves his car, our dogs and football... he is very fit and healthy and is also retiring.
So will have time to invest in himself.

If he has put other people first then perhaps a reminder of his family would be suitable. This might be something characteristic to the area he grew up in, or something like a photo album, with a photograph for each of the last sixty years. This would take some effort to pull together but might be appreciated.

Otherwise, any possible suppressed interests you can discern from what he studied at university, or related to his work, or holidays you have been on?

Does he particularly like beer or wine? Might be be interested in learning something new like home brewing?

allthgoodusernamesaretaken · 06/09/2018 13:19

What's your AIBU?

Havaina · 06/09/2018 13:22

A tour of his football's team stadium?

A VIP game experience with champagne?

A season ticket?

silverlace · 06/09/2018 13:24

I am looking into getting a hospitality box at my DH's favourite football club for a big birthday. I will invite close friends for pre match hospitality then watch a game in comfort.

Hadalifeonce · 06/09/2018 13:26

A few years ago I bought DH a session in a Lamborghini, it was at a disused airfield somewhere in Oxford, he did several laps at really high speed, he absolutely loved it. If your DH loves his car, this might be for him.

Lucisky · 06/09/2018 13:28

A lovely holiday that you can enjoy together.

5foot5 · 06/09/2018 13:41

My DH turned 60 earlier this year and I got him this Lego NASA Apollo Saturn V and he LOVED it!

Baffy · 06/09/2018 13:44

I like silverlace's idea

allthgoodusernamesaretaken - “What’s your AIBU”

I have no AIBU as stated in my title

For my dh 40 th I got him a flight in a tiger moth plane, he loved it

Elphame · 06/09/2018 19:45

I often give my DP an experience rather than a present. He has everything he wants or can buy it himself. This year it was a blacksmithing lesson but he’s done race cars, boats and driving steam engines in previous years

TeddybearBaby · 06/09/2018 21:05

What area are you in?

Cheerymom · 06/09/2018 21:23

Barge trips overnight, walking with wolves, ukwct.org.uk, so many experiences these days that you can both enjoy.
