Urgent - landlord/tenant query

Cheddarsmedders · 06/09/2018 06:50

I am a renter - landlord is selling the flat - I have allowed access while I am in work today for a viewing. Side note: they (the agency) asked at 18:00 yesterday for access, so not 24 hrs notice but I’m not overly fussed by that. However, the landlord WhatsApped me at 1am (!) waking me up, asking if he was ok to come earlier to ventilate the flat. I feel really uncomfortable about him being sat in my flat (with all the windows open) all morning, alone. AIBU to say no, I’m not ok with that? I’d hate the thought of someone being in my home all morning...
Side note: the flat is damp.

YANBU at all, just remind him you do really need 24 hours notice and you can't have your life being disrupted, ie all windows open for ages cooling your flat down. I don't think you even need to let viewers in so you're doing him a favour anyway. If he wants to disguise the damp maybe he should fix it!

WerewolfNumber1 · 06/09/2018 06:59

Yanbu. You don’t have to allow access for viewings at all (even if they give lots of notice).

Say no - you can always offer to open the windows!

He wants to disguise the damp smell... Shock

No. Sorry LL. What a rogue trader!

BaronessBomburst · 06/09/2018 07:52

I'd refuse any request which woke me up.
It's pointless anyway; the damp will be easily picked up on the survey, even if the buyers don't notice it anyway.
Presumably there's marks on the walls, blistered paint etc?

LeftRightCentre · 06/09/2018 08:01

YANBU. You don't have to allow viewings at all but this is just CFery.

Cheddarsmedders · 06/09/2018 10:11

Thanks all, I’ve said no and got a one word answer! Let’s see what happens!

@cheddarsmedders Previous posters totally correct. It's an unreasonable request and you've already been kind enough to allow the viewing with less than the required notice. I'd be highly suspicious though & assume if LL cheeky enough to request they might be cheeky enough to let themselves in anyway if they know you're not in. If I ever rent again I'll be making sure I get a nest camera!

hate to say 8t bht if you are not going to be in how do you know whether he will come early or not?
