Or are some charities totally out of order?

We get loads of people from various charities knocking on our door since moving house. Sometimes it's a new one every night. We've just had someone here, at half 9, from Red Cross. Is it just me being miserable or is this far too late to call? My kids are asleep and I don't like answering the door in the dark when I'm dressed for bed. It's the second time in a month they've called too, and we said a firm no last time.

It's deliberate.

When it's late and dark you feel more vulnerable and will hand over the cash more readily. Classic intimidation. Especially if there's two of them.

I'd ring head office and complain. 9.30 is way too late!

I think they're supposed to stop by nine. I'd contact their supporter services to complain.
They wouldn't be asking for cash, most likely for a direct debit.

I beliebe if you have a sign saying no cold callers and they still come they can be fined. Not sure how they go about it though.

I hate charities/churches etc coming to your door regardless of the time, I wish they weren't allowed to do this. Feels too invasive and pressured to me (which I guess is kind of the point). But in any case 9.30 is definitely way too late - I would complain.

I used to do this job. It was a while back so I can't remember what time we were told to stop. It was a worthwhile job that raised a lot of money for the charity I fundraised for.

I doubt the workers know about the other workers who visited you as they probably work through different agencies.

If you don't want them to knock, put a sign in your window.

MipMipMip · 05/09/2018 22:23

A charity will only use a single agency for each type of work. So they might have different ones for the phones and the door knocking but all door knockers will be the same, if you know what I mean. Ring the company direct to complain - the agency will take more notice of a bollocking from they employer that a customer complaining.

They aren’t allowed to knock passed 9 PM do please do report to Red Cross as it gives ethical fundraisers a bad name.
