What innate talents or acquired skill really stands out for you?

Bags of energy? Team player knack? Great networker? PRINCE2? Excel?

PersisFord · 04/09/2018 21:08

Bigfatfuckingfailure · 04/09/2018 21:10

"Can do attitude"

But what if you CANNOT do anything very well at all? Sometimes I get bogged down in worry that this is me. Yet, I still have to earn a living somehow.

Being able to talk to people...Doesn't sound much but I work in aa environment where folk hate me and wouldn't think twice about doing something to injure me. I can generally talk folk round and diffuse situations so neither of us get hurt.
I'm known as a bit of a hard faced cow by colleagues but the service users like me Grin

delphguelph · 04/09/2018 21:10

My accent, sense of humour and general sunny attitude.

It's all a game really.

CaveMaman · 04/09/2018 21:10

I'm good at explaining technical things to management so that they get behind my ideas, and give me the freedom to execute them effectively.

I also listen very carefully when someone tells me how they like their tea/coffee to keep everyone happy in the office. Grin

I always try to be pleasant and diplomatic with colleagues - even when they're being dicks!

Just nod and smile. The battle is half won if you just show up on time!

Fake it till you make it, baby!

defineme · 04/09/2018 21:11

Never feeling inferior.
Sounding expert on any given topic.
Empathy.

serbska · 04/09/2018 21:12

Technical skills and qualifications

Excel

Ability to connect quickly with people - clients and colleagues - in an authentic way

Being a ‘can do’ person

Good at accepting development points and working on them

Things that hinder me:
Getting fustrated easily
Loosing interest once the initial exciting party of a project is over
Being inherently a bit lazy
Don’t like managing shit people (love managing good people)

Shockers · 04/09/2018 21:12

Modelling kindness and empathy, whilst giving clear and consistent expectation of desired behaviours.

Not taking undesirable behaviour personally.

PurpleCurtains · 04/09/2018 21:12

Faking being a capable, competent and mature adult. My motto is Fake it til you make it!

ItscalledaVulva · 04/09/2018 21:13

Excel (vlookups!), ability to make decisions and recommendations with confidence, ability to remain extremely calm in face of shit hitting fan, ability to be friendly and make time for people who work for me

serbska · 04/09/2018 21:13

@delphguelph agree it’s all a game, you’ve just got to play it!

postcardsfrom · 04/09/2018 21:13

I’m really practical and a good problem solver - not the most Hollywoodnof skills but I know I can sort anything and rarely lose my cool.

PurpleCurtains · 04/09/2018 21:13

And Excel. I did a course years ago and am in a profession where many cannot really use it

delphguelph · 04/09/2018 21:13

Not the first time Excel is seen as a vital skill. DH is great at excel and shock horror enjoys it too, it's opened many doors.

HateIsNotGood · 04/09/2018 21:14

Discerning facts from 'interpretation'

serbska · 04/09/2018 21:14

Ladies - index match can me more useful than vlookuo in lots of situations ;-)

coffeeagogo · 04/09/2018 21:15
  1. Ability to get on with everyone I.e. keep my swearing in my head and vent to non-work people.
  2. Able to take a sentence from a senior person and develop a entire project from the (usually vague thought) idea
  3. Pragmatic and practical approach to work (see point 2) looking at what ' they' want vs what can we actually achieve?
Brigante9 · 04/09/2018 21:15

Languages, given I’m a language teacher! And energy, apparently I have lots!
