If it can be enforced, my 100% support. Schools will have to cope with parents contacting them over minor issues though as they get used to this, because they may think their child cannot be contacted. The other thing will be what constitutes an 'emergency' could cause a lot of arguments, so should be defined.

Bloodyfucksake · 04/09/2018 20:21

It's brilliant. The kids are still permitted to have them and can call their parents at the end of the school day if they want to or need to. Any really emergency the school office would obviously contact parents.

Pupils can't play with them at playtime and will have to move around / interact with each other.

Its brilliant.

As long as they can have them for the way home, I see no issue. We all survived without them.

SpringSnow · 04/09/2018 20:24

It's nothing but government interference

SillySallySingsSongs · 04/09/2018 20:25

No issye with it at all.

SillySallySingsSongs · 04/09/2018 20:25

*issue

Our school does this anyway, no biggie, they still have them for walking to and from school

Summerisdone · 04/09/2018 20:36

I honestly thought they were banned in all schools anyway. When I was in school (granted it's been 11 years) they were banned, also when my DSis was in school ( 6 years ago) her school banned them, and now my teenage DSis's are also not allowed to have mobiles in their school either. Kids are supposed to hand them in to office first thing and collect at the end of the day so that they still have them for journey to and from school.
It doesn't stop most of the kids from hiding them in their bags though (and same back in my school too), but at least this way kids are only having them out now and again for fear of being caught and having it confiscated.

PiggeryPorcombe · 04/09/2018 20:43

This is already in force at our secondary. They aren’t allowed the phones switched on at school and breaking that rule means phone is confiscated and a parent has to collect phone from the office.

I fully support this.

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 04/09/2018 20:46

DS1's school has enforced this since he began there last year. He still has his phone for before and after school emergencies - though they're few and far between - but it doesn't interfere with his education because he knows if he's caught using it during the day it'll be confiscated til a parent can collect it.

I fully endorse this sort of ruling.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 04/09/2018 20:47

I would love them to be banned in schools.

My DS refuses to take part in any lunchtime clubs because he would rather sit and play games on his phone.

They are supposed to keep phones in bags during lessons but it's clear that only some teachers enforce the rule. I know my son is distracted by his phone in lessons.

The school I've chosen for my DD has a complete ban on phones and they are not even allowed to have them in their bags. They have access to a phone in the pastoral care department for any issues that come up during the day.

Hate this silly law. French secondary schools are huge. My daughter now can’t text her friends to find out where they are during breaks, and if she’s late for a lesson I will STILL get an email from the school demanding that I explain, but I can no longer contact her to find out what’s happening. And they STILL let the kids stand outside the gates smoking like chimneys - what hypocrisy.
