To think you don't put someone else's slippers on your naked feet without asking?

My cleaner had had to change her hours this week so was there when I got home today. Was a bit surprised to find her wearing my slippers. She said something along the lines of "I assume that's ok". I think my face spoke for me coz she took them off. Is it just me or is that properly weird....

Yanbu, however slippers really freak me out so don't have/ use them. I will use flip flops as they can at least be sanitised, although I prefer bare feet.

JustlikeDevon · 04/09/2018 21:55

Is she Russian? I lived in Russia and when i'd visit some homes there was a basket of slippers by the door and you were expected to put on a random pair.

easyandy101 · 04/09/2018 21:56

YANBU

people being weird about other people's feet is a common insanity that you should observe/accommodate in general

HashTagLil · 04/09/2018 21:57

How many people do you think tried on the shoes you bought before you bought them?

Nope not the same, slippers are furry and encourage foot juice. The foot juice clings to the furry and then transfers to any other foot that is placed in the warm slipper. Envy

Outnotdown · 04/09/2018 22:16

Foot juice?????? Bleuuuurgh🤢

greathat · 04/09/2018 22:43

@HashTagLil but you try shoes on with socks. It was the nakedness of foot that bothered me

@JustlikeDevon nope no foreign customs to account for it :)

My ex cleaner did exactly the same, word my slippers. That was just before she started helping herself to face creams and spare change. She needs to go.

Aroundtheworldandback · 04/09/2018 22:58

*wore my slippers

sexnotgender · 04/09/2018 23:00

The slippers would be going in the bin! Yuck.

RavenLG · 04/09/2018 23:07

Family and Friends I would be fine with... the cleaner not so much. I'd leave them by the door for her now, and get a new uninfected pair for you and hide them!

DammitOedipus · 05/09/2018 07:12

I have no issue with feet, they're just a thing you walk on. I'd be concerned about the cleaner overstepping boundaries though - a firm word and I'm sure she won't do it again.

Pulipatchouli · 05/09/2018 11:13

Is she Eastern European?
Sounds like a clear cultural misunderstanding to me. It IS the custom in Russia for hosts to keep slippers for visitors and quite improper and rude to keep your shoes on or go barefoot in russian apartments. I know some Polish people that do this too, very clear house-slipper rules.
She might have been trying to do the right thing.

ToothTrauma · 05/09/2018 11:25

What the fuck?! Not ok! She should have her own slippers as part of her kit! Is she going to use your toothbrush next??

BloodyDisgrace · 05/09/2018 11:33

Yep, it wasn't a good idea. I'd not be pleased too, although all these "ewww", "yuk", "disgusting" sounds people make here are too much, I hope you don't speak like that to people in real life. It's impolite. Just asking someone not to do something politely enough is all what's needed.

TheWildRumpyPumpus · 05/09/2018 11:33

Grin How many times has she done this before when you weren’t at home...not pleasant.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 05/09/2018 11:36

I only share my slippers with the dogs. They quite like to chew on them, so no bare feet involved there.

PenelopeFlintstone · 05/09/2018 11:37

Does she have to take her shoes off in your house?
Or did she just really want to wear your slippers......

greathat · 05/09/2018 17:06

No she's as English as they come to the best of my knowledge. I think she usually takes slippers of her own. I've never told her she can't wear shoes in the house but we do generally take them off by the front door

I'm glad we're poor, we don't have to deal with these issues haha!

I'd have "let her go" as someone else's foot sweat in my fluffy slippers would make my stomach turn! It would make me think "what else has she done in my house!"

Amdoingit · 06/09/2018 12:43

That is properly weird. I would be a bit concerned about what else she assumes while you’re not home.
