To burn the entire house down? Threadworms and TMI

Honestly not sure how as I have health related OCD and permanently wash bedding, never use a towel twice and the house is permanently cleaned but we keep getting bloody threadworms Angry
Ds is a nailbiting nose picker (he's 5) so I'm blaming him Grin
How on earth am I going to get rid of them? This must be at least the third time this year! Has anyone successfully gotten rid for good?

herb, they probably just don’t know! I thought mine hadn’t had them, we just discovered that DD had them two nights ago 🤢 Reading this thread I’m realising that when she complained of a sore vulva a few months ago it was probably worms. Feeling like a rubbish mum now. Well, we dosed the whole family right away and will work to keep on top of it so here’s hoping 🤞

opalescent · 04/09/2018 20:13

I've honest never understood the distress- perhaps I've been lucky, but my son has had this a few times and all I've needed to do is:

-Dose the household with ovex

  • wash bedding
  • encourage hand washing.

They've then disappeared completely for months at a time.

It's one of those annoying kid things.

ShowOfHands · 04/09/2018 21:53

Silke, that's the only way we ever used to know we had them. No itching, we didn't spot them and then DD complained of a sore vulva. It was always worms. I spent ages thinking she had thrush. I've seen a few threads on here with mothers despairing of dds with soreness, canesten doing nothing, eliminating bubble bath etc and then somebody says it's probably worms and of course it is. You're not alone.

We had foreign ones

DS farted and about 30 came out

A memory that will never fade

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 04/09/2018 22:47

Hmm I've bitten my nails all my life and honestly never had worms... am over 40 now.
Everyone picks their nose op.
So maybe just unlucky?

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 04/09/2018 22:48

Omfg stopshouting are you for real??? 😱😨😳

makingmiracles · 04/09/2018 22:54

I’m not sure they are as common as people think. I’ve 4kids ranging from teenage to toddler and none have had worms so far....I say so far as the toddler seems to pick up every bloody thing going so I won’t be surprised if she ends up with them!

BlackeyedSusan · 04/09/2018 22:57

hoover the bed, damp dist. do not shake bedding as that sends them into the air.

one of mine came home from school residential with them. think of all the unhygenic non handwashingkids that go through the dorms... (will mine wash his bloody hands, will he heck!)

welshmist · 04/09/2018 22:58

Ive gone right off playdough.. Shock

ShowOfHands · 04/09/2018 23:02

Makingmiracles, seriously at any given time 40% of primary aged children have them but most won't show symptoms. It is is really common. With good hygiene, they may well just go on their own and you'd never notice. DS never shows symptoms but he definitely gets them if I don't keep a close eye.

BifsWif · 05/09/2018 18:42

My son never had them, or never had symptoms, but my daughter was really uncomfortable with them. It would wake her up at night. Thankfully she hasn’t had them more than once...so far.

MotherofPearl · 05/09/2018 19:14

stopshouting 😂

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 05/09/2018 19:20

Yes
Maybe 30 is a slight exaggeration but many worms exited his bottom

I was quite ignorant about threadworms and we all freaked Grin

LifesTooShortForMatchingSocks · 05/09/2018 21:27

Stopshouting I actually laughed out loud at that sorry Grin oh the joys!

If they never show symptoms then how do you know they've got them??? Hmm

formerbabe · 05/09/2018 22:32

My dc had them once...it's hell on earth. The washing machine never stopped.

Make sure you iron underwear!

BigBlueBubble · 05/09/2018 22:32

Wear pyjamas all the time, especially while sleeping. Otherwise you scratch, get eggs on the fingers, fingers in the mouth and it starts all over again.
