To want a baby monitor that's not mains powered

Our house is quite old and the baby's room only has one double plug socket, in order to get best use of the space, the cot won't be near to the sockets. I've been looking for a video baby monitor with a rechargeable camera unit, plenty have battery operated parent units or app compatibility but I'm struggling to find a decent reliable model with a rechargeable camera unit. Any recommendations very much appreciated. The house is quite big and walls are thick so I don't want to go without a monitor.

Is there any way you could use an extension and fasten the wire securely around skirting boards? Mains powdered are probably more reliable.

It's literally the other side of the room and we have wooden floor boards so no carpet to tuck a wire under either

I've had to use an extension and pin it the skirting boards

My baby monitor says it works best when not too near the child. But if you only have one socket I would be looking into rewiring.

The room isn't tiny but once you take into account a window, the door, a built in wardrobe and a radiator it leaves layout options really limited. The plug sockets are in a space between a radiator and window that's not big enough to fit the cot and I'm not sure I'd want it between a source of heat and a potentially cooler spot by a window anyway. To use an extension or would need to be fairly long and would be a bit of an eyesore, I'm not sure how safe it would be either

We've not long had it replastered and decorated so rewiring isn't an option

@anotherangel2 My baby monitor says it works best when not too near the child.

This might be the answer actually I'm assuming it needs to be really close to work but maybe I could have it plugged in on a shelf in the wall opposite the cot rather than next to it

I’ve got some cord covers from b&q that would be really unobtrusive run along the top of the skirting. The battery on our parent unit doesn’t last all night, I can imagine any battery powered parent unit would be similar. That said I think maybe our old angelcare had a battery option in case of power cuts? Could look into that. Or wall mount the camera or audio monitor above the socket but pointing at the cot. It doesn’t need to be right next to it (in fact that’s not recommended as the cords can be a risk).

Just get a battery listening monitor and forget about the faddy camera thing.

@TheWinterofOurDiscountTentsMk2
Thanks for missing the point of the question. We've made the choice to have a video monitor, that's our choice to make, I asked for a way to help install one or for a recommendation for a battery operated one. PPs have actually pointed out you can install them a few feet away, so that looks like the best option for us as we can install shelving on the wall opposite, near to the power sockets. I didn't ask whether you thought video monitors were faddy.
