Why do so many people do this?!!! Argh!! Just nearly crashed because a huge truck had its full beams on and nearly blinded me. Sat in the services feeling wound up and stressed. Fucker!!!

This used to annoy me all the time. On country roads you can see a car well before they reach the top of a hill, most drivers (myself included) dip before we become visible to eachother but there is always a wanker who waits until after the turn before they dip. Or the shitey auto lights that don't dip until they sense your headlights which is already too late

By the way I only learned this last year, you can dip your rear view mirror so headlights behind you are still visible but don't glare. There's usually a wee switch on back side of it. Revolutionary!!

ForalltheSaints · 03/09/2018 19:29

It is not full beam that is the issue, it is not turning them off when cars approach. If you don't then to me it is driving without due care and attention, not that the courts would agree necessarily.

TheHobbitMum · 03/09/2018 19:37

New halogen & xenon lights are incredibly bright couple that with automatic lights it can be an issue (our car is automatic lights). Lights adjusted and pointing down but still bright despite not being on high beam

arealnamechanger · 03/09/2018 19:41

Can I add to this discussion people who drive with their fog lights permanently on because (presumably) they think it looks cool? Saddos.

MrsTerryPratchett · 03/09/2018 19:45

I'm sure you're not a BMW wanker @UghNoWay Grin

FlorencesHunger · 03/09/2018 19:51

I don't have cataracts but do have minor glass subscription for driving in the dark and reading etc although they aren't mandatory, I really need them as my perception of the road is so difficult when it's dark and the roads are poorly marked I basically become a hazard. Daytime driving is a none issue.
Those bright lights stress me out, they should be banned.

Great that they can see for miles with those lights while everyone else is dazzled.

I second the idiots who drive with their fog lights on..... when there is no fog, just because they think their car looks cool!!! Angry

glintandglide · 03/09/2018 20:40

@realmamechanger new cars do that automatically- the headlights come on in pretty much anything but bright sunlight. It’s the law now.

glintandglide · 03/09/2018 20:42

How could they be banned floeenceshunger? They’re specifically there to help drivers see in poor light. How could you argue that people shouldn’t be able to see properly? Hmm

CherryPavlova · 03/09/2018 21:36

If I didn’t use full beam there would be far more dead deer.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 03/09/2018 21:45

There was a report fairly recently by either the RAC or the AA (forget which) stating that on most modern cars the headlights are too bright, and the indicators aren't bright enough, and that rang true for me.

Morethanthisprovincallife · 03/09/2018 22:37

Cars are becoming super sized monsters now.
And their lights are higher with extraordinary laser beams blinding everyone.

It staggers me that driving in France they insists we put little stickers on lights and yet here it's fine to blind everyone. Dreading winter driving

VeniVidiWeeWee · 03/09/2018 23:11

glint

Not in England.

You may be thinking about daytime running lights.

MaxTeyon · 04/09/2018 11:58

Then you misunderstand the purpose of these I’m afraid. As Brits we have to use them as our headlights are RHD spec so kick up to the left, when we drive in France the kick up would be straight into oncoming traffic hence the need to prevent that.

Also, halogen lights are the old tech ‘standard’ headlights. The bright white/blue tinged ones are generally xenon/HID and those are being replaced by LEDs. Manufacturers are also working on laser headlights which will replace LEDs.

FlorencesHunger · 04/09/2018 19:46

glintandglide I meant the super bright blue led type light bulbs and not fog lights. We've managed this long without them.

Eliza9917 · 04/09/2018 20:26

I find too bright lights a real problem. I bought yellow lens night driving glasses. I found nice aviator ones instead of the fugly old man ones. Got them on eBay for less than £2.

Oblomov18 · 04/09/2018 20:29

I can't say this has happened to me.... in the last 10 years or so. No one has blinded me with their full beams.

And general brightness of lights doesn't bother me either.
