I'm 42 and sometimes babysit for my aunt who's a foster carer.
I'm police checked and have been doing it for years with no pay rise so just curious what the going rate is nowadays.

£10 per hour. South East (not London).

Sandstormbrewing · 02/09/2018 19:59

A bottle of vegan wine every now and again and Barry Manilow tickets, but they are a relative so refuse money.

It's £8 - £10 an hour here for a 'professional'.

Zippitydoodar · 02/09/2018 20:02

Thank. I've been on £5 an hour for the past 20 yrs but she is a relative as you say. Just curious as I do for a few other who aren't relatives for a fiver too!

£8 an hour

Rocknroller1234 · 02/09/2018 20:17

£9 - £12 an hour - in London and depending on how experienced they are.

Tempjob · 02/09/2018 20:19

Going rate here is about £9-10 cash in hand per hour.

redcaryellowcar · 02/09/2018 20:20

I think nanny's/ someone with experience in our area are around £10 an hour, students who are 15/16 years old and not expected to do much more than sit on the sofa and eat biscuits around £7/8?

RefuseTheLies · 02/09/2018 20:21

I pay her £10 per hour, but she actually only charges £8 p/h.

I just refuse to pay the person who is looking after my child less money than we pay our cleaner or cat sitter.

mrsm43s · 02/09/2018 20:36

I wouldn't charge a relative for occasional babysitting.

stevie69 · 02/09/2018 20:57

I'm happy to babysit for my lovely friends and don't charge Blush

FreeButtonBee · 02/09/2018 20:59

I pay a local teenager £8 an hour; qualified nanny £12 - this is for babysitting not actual childcare.

Muddlingalongalone · 02/09/2018 21:01

£7 per hour - that's what she asked for.

Mindchilder · 02/09/2018 21:03

£7 for a qualified, dbs checked, first aid trained nursery nurse.

Peakypolly · 02/09/2018 21:07

£10 per hour until midnight , after 12 it is £15.
This is a friends au-pair.
South Midlands.

Zippitydoodar · 02/09/2018 21:08

Thanks everyone. I'm definitely undercharging! I'm in Yorkshire but even so...

£8-10 ph (south central here). This is for an experienced babysitter here. £100-£120 for 6pm - 10am (so an overnight)

When I tell people how much we pay for overnight they usually react in shock! I don’t think it’s much for 3 kids and someone giving up their wekend but parents who have family help seem to think it’s ridiculous and we are being taken advantage of Hmm

jusdepamplemousse · 02/09/2018 21:11

£8 per hour or part thereof, and I round up to the nearest £10. In NI.

jusdepamplemousse · 02/09/2018 21:13

Teen relatives get £20, £40 or £60 depending on how long we are out for (guaged roughly) plus an offer of a pizza, sky PIN number to rent a movie, sweets etc.

Fightthebear · 02/09/2018 21:19

£7 ph for local teenager.

£12 ph for qualified nanny (London).

SittHakim · 02/09/2018 21:34

£10 per hour or part, £15 if after midnight (only ever happened once!). We use Sitters; that's above their recommended rates, but I think the recommended rates are shamefully low for London.
