Boss badmouthing me

I’m not sure what to do.. I recently came back to work from being off sick and spending time in hospital and on full bed rest. It was not fun, I have doctors notes and proof. One of my jobs is a zero hours contract, I tend to do about 24 per week. Since I’ve come back my manager seems to have decided they don’t like me very much anymore, others have noticed and questioned me about it. Upon return Ive requested shorter shifts (usually do 8-12 hours- on my feet) and was told by my manager that they could offer less hours but not shorter shifts. Fair one. I wanted to transfer to a different department where they could offer shorter hours. Thought all was well and good and have been approached by someone who overheard a conversation between my manager and new manager whereby I’ve been badmouthed and lied about so now obviously chances of transfer are lower, although I don’t think it was taken to heart as my manager has form for this. Person who told me doesn’t want me to say anything for fear of getting in trouble or gossiping, and I trust this person very very much, they’d have no reason to lie whatsoever.
I haven’t done anything wrong. At all.

For full disclosure I’m diagnosed bipolar and have fibromyalgia and RA. I’ve called in sick maybe 3 times, I’ve worked there a year.

Is there anything to be done here or just to be left? I don’t want a nice part time job to turn into a chore, I enjoy my job and I like my team.

I’m happy to be told to live and let live. Obviously I’m upset but I’m quite laid back and will let it go if I need to..

If your illness is classed as part of a wider disability then you would surely be protected from discrimination under the Disability Discrimination Act. Although how that works on a zero hours contract I wouldn’t know?

I would suggest some form on mediation. I think you’re going to have to raise these issues directly with your manager, regardless of how difficult that may be.

Colleagues and bosses can be very judgemental and unsympathetic when it comes to taking time off; even for legitimate reasons
