to expect my dd not to be called a cry baby by a teacher when a football hits her in the nose?

Don't know whether I'm being over sensitive, my dd can get very upset about things and can be a drama queen at the best of times but today she was hit by a football on the nose and burst into tears at school. She tells me she went to wash her face and tried to stop crying but couldn't because it hurt so much and the teacher's response was 'stop being a crybaby'.............

no, not unreasonable at all, well, unless your daughter is over 18 I guess. Actually, even then ...

poptot · 06/06/2007 23:12

No she's 7, actually think I've answered my own question having seen it in writing, it's not acceptable. I'd tell her off if she said this to a friend or to ds.

No not unreasonable at all

Can only imagine that given your dd's drama queen tendencies, she's cried wolf a couple of times too many and the teacher has reacted inappropriately at this incident as a result.

No excuse for it otherwise imo.

katelyle · 06/06/2007 23:15

Really don't like the use of the word - but is it possible (being devil's advocate here) that she was being one? My dd went through a really iritating wimpy phase and I wouldn't have blamed any teacher who lost patience with her - the slightest bump and she was rushing for an ice pack! Your dd's teacher still shouldn't have said it, though - maybe he thought he was being "bracing" How old is she? Is there still a mark on her face?

Mrscarrot · 06/06/2007 23:16

I would be making an appointment tomorrow

Mrscarrot · 06/06/2007 23:16

just not a nice thing to say however much she was crying

poptot · 06/06/2007 23:19

TBH I think she would have being trying very hard to stop crying as she would have been embarassed in fornt of her friends, so it must have really hurt. When I say she is a drama queen she tends to be more of a fuss pot about things ie if there's a falling out she'll be the first one to tell the teacher etc. But I think this is a bit different.

I was hit by a football on the nose walking through the school playground one lunchtime recently. I very nearly did cry. It bloody hurt. And I'm 43, not seven. So YANBU at all.

purpleduck · 07/06/2007 00:10

its mean of the teacher - does she then actively endorse namecalling??? meany!!!

SofiaAmes · 07/06/2007 05:10

Have to agree with purpleduck. It really is irrelevant whether your dd was overreacting or crying too much. It is absolutely inappropriate for a teacher to call her names regardless of her behavior. It is a terrible example for her to set for a child.

mamama · 07/06/2007 05:19

totally unacceptable and unprofessional of the teacher (if that is definitely what happened)

Your poor DD.

I hope her nose feels better soon

(and, btw, I am a teacher and got hit in the nose by a football whilst on playground duty. No-one called me a crybaby when I had tears streaming down my face. It hurts)

poptot · 07/06/2007 08:41

Thanks for all your replies I am going to speak to her teacher

However much or little it might have hurt having a huge football flying into your face without warning must give you a huge shock

bookwormmum · 07/06/2007 09:14

I'm 35 and I would still cry (after swearing). Being hit on your nose is not only undignified but it bloody hurts.

BrothelSprouts · 07/06/2007 09:23

Go and see teacher, armed with a football.
You must hit her on the nose with it, to scientifically prove your point that it bloody hurts.
Perhaps 'reactions when human is hit on nose by fast moving football' isn't on the National Curriculum, so the teacher isn't aware of the outcome yet?

mamama · 07/06/2007 14:46

lol brothel!!
