Shower over bath issue

PollyPofter · 02/09/2018 13:35

Right when I have a shower in the bath - I now stand In a puddle??

Partner thinks this is normal- I don’t!

I put several drain unblockers down bath drain to no avail - still puddles appear - slow drainage

Partner thinks I’m over reacting to getting someone out to clean out tube under bath which will be blocked with hair

AIBU???

The puddle will help clean your feet.

Aprilshowersinaugust · 02/09/2018 13:40

Now you have a good excuse to buy a rubber duck!!

Bluelady · 02/09/2018 13:43

I wouldn't pay someone to prevent a temporary puddle, it seems a very boring way to spend money to me.

pigsDOfly · 02/09/2018 13:46

Well clearly something is blocked so probably needs clearing. Won't the blockage just get worse if it's not dealt with?

cardibach · 02/09/2018 13:48

If you are really bothered, take of the bath panel and see if there’s is a section of piping like a sink U bend which will have trapped all the hair. Remove it and clear it. Doesn’t need a plumber unless it looks more complicated under there.

Did you use a drain unblocker specifically for bathroom use? They claim to dissolve hair.

Is the puddling a recent development or has it always happened? The former would suggest a blockage but the latter might be something structural, eg waste pipe too narrow for the volume of water or the drainage angle not steep enough.

IVflytrap · 02/09/2018 13:57

Put some Nair down the drain. It dissolves the hair.

Verbena87 · 02/09/2018 13:59

We bought some bath drain in locker stuff that came with a long flexible strip of plastic with little barbs down either side to ram down and dislodge/hoik out the hair. Bit yuck, but did the trick. Then get one of those plughole cover hairtrap things for when you’re using it as a shower.

Every time I have a shower I have to pull my hair out of the drain when I'm done - get some tweezers/a skewer stick and start digging around see if you can pull anything up then pour a whole bottle of bleach/drain unblocker down there. You can get ones specifically for bathroom drains that apparently can dissolve hair, never tried them myself though.

I like my temporary puddle.

It's like a two in 1 (shower and footbath) :)

footbrushing and other foot "maintenance things" (cuticles etc) just seem to be easier when my feet were underwater for a little while.

Nacreous · 02/09/2018 14:06

I would consider a) trying with real caustic soda and b) then using a plug hole trap to prevent the worst of it. This solved my puddle problem (as long as I clear the plug hole trap).

Lynne1Cat · 02/09/2018 16:13

The plughole might be blocked with hair. Simply buy some VEET and put it down the plughole, that's what I do

helvetica01 · 02/09/2018 16:19

Do not buy any more drain unblocker liquid that claims to melt hair! They don't always work and kill fish. Use this www.wickes.co.uk/Monument-1459W-Master-Plunger-Sink-and-Waste-Pipe-Unblocker/p/150172 I'm a big hair shedder and this always does the trick.
