Close friend is pestering me to get involved in her MLM business. Her social media is full of her pushing her product and stating how blessed she is to run her own business and be able to spend so much time with her kids. AIBU to think is her husbands 6 figure salary, not her MLM that's affording her that lifestyle ?! Behind closed doors she keeps banging on about how much she wants to leave him, how much she dislikes him, then on social media she cannot sing his praises highly enough. It's all so false ... are they encouraged to portray a happy family to sell more ? It's driving me bonkers, she works so hard at it - Late into the evening and I don't think she is getting much financial reward. AIBU to think she's been totally brainwashed by them? Anyone ever worked for one? Seems pointless to me ....

@therealhousewife they don't go in free holidays. They pay extortionate amounts and make out it's an amazing opportunity. It's a total scam

Aeroflotgirl · 02/09/2018 11:19

I know a few genuine small business owners (cake maker, cafe owner, beutician, hairdresser) who does act like this!

TheRealHousewifeofCheshire · 02/09/2018 17:50

BlaaBlaaBlaa why would intelligent people do that though? What would she get from it. These are intelligent people i cant imagine she would fork out loads and still go with it... i just dont get it

Tizzlebizzle · 02/09/2018 18:02

Because they are conditioned to believe success is just around the corner. Everyone has vulnerabilities if someone looks hard enough despite appearing successful and intelligent on the surface. If a bot finds your weak spot they pounce.

BlaaBlaaBlaa · 02/09/2018 18:12

They get brainwashed. Read Elle Beau's blog and you can see they're all reading from the same script.

I looked at Elle Beau but I just cant believe that the people I know are sucked in like that i appreciate that for some people forking out etc must make money surely?

BlaaBlaaBlaa · 02/09/2018 21:05

Unfortunately they're just brainwashed bots now. They aren't the friends you knew.
If they're lucky they'll figure it out before they spend too much money.

TheRealHousewifeofCheshire · 02/09/2018 21:34

The people i know arent brainwashed. It isnt their sole focus. They still communicate with me the same as we always did x

MissCharleyP · 02/09/2018 21:44

TheRealHousewife I appreciate you don’t want to think badly of your friends but they have fallen at the first hurdle. When you have started a job, how often have you had to pay a joining/start up fee? That would be never, I’m guessing? If the stuff is so good why isn’t it in shops? The hunbots are encouraged by their uplines to think success (and a white Range Rover 🙄) is just around the corner if they work at their “business” 24/7. The don’t make money. I read something once that said you had to be one of the people who joined in the first two weeks (or similar) to be in with a chance of not making a loss. It’s all based on recruitment, there’s no way that selling make up/shakes/skincare on social media can replace a full time wage. A couple of people I went to school with do it and I’ve stopped following them on social media as everything was always “rocking my business” and “loving my office view” - from the garden. I’ve just worked out that based on a 5% commission of a product costing £25, you’d make less than £3k a year and that (if my maths is correct) is selling six units a day for seven days every day. How ANYONE thinks this is a viable business is beyond me!

TheRealHousewifeofCheshire · 02/09/2018 22:02

They still work though. I dont think their idea is to leave their jobs!

BlaaBlaaBlaa · 02/09/2018 22:06

They still work because have to. They aren't earning any money from their 'business'! The hunbot I know waxes lyrical about how life changing selling overpriced make up is....how's she's providing for her family. Except 1 year in and she's still a full time midwife working nightshifts.

TheRealHousewifeofCheshire · 02/09/2018 22:25

The people i know dont post the sort of posts you mention and i know what you mean. It isnt their intention to givw uo their jobs. X

BlaaBlaaBlaa · 02/09/2018 22:31

I know it must be difficult to think that your friends have been duped or conned. I've researched MLM and have not found a single positive thing about any of them. Everyone I know who is involved in one has lost money.
Just bear that in mind if they try to recruit you.

MissCharleyP · 02/09/2018 22:32

That’s fair enough, I’ve known (not very well) people who have done it as a sideline; lady who lives near me has a hair & beauty salon and also does Younique, she never pushes it or tries to sell it over FB. Another salon owner I know got Tropic in, both of these can probably use it in their respective businesses without needing to hassle and recruit.

AnoukSpirit · 02/09/2018 22:39

Cheshire Is it you who's signed up as well/rather than your friends? Because you sound extremely determined to argue this is all a-ok, and no brainwashing involved.

Also, why do you keep sending us all kisses?

pomlife · 02/09/2018 22:44

I've read the Elle blog - that's pretty eye opening. She wants me to get involved to promotion the nutrition side of the business. The prices are astronomical! 60$ for some hydration stuff, I use hydra lite (only when it's super hot, or I'm hungover) which is under 10$. Also the protein is 100$ the one I buy is 60$ - I appreciate it's vegan, but I'm not so I'm not really the target market tbh. I don't know how to tell her gently that she would be better focusing her efforts elsewhere !

Nope definitely not me. Thanks charleyp thats like the people i know. Im not defensivw just dont understand and thought id ask questions thats all but the people i know arent brqimwashed as you say this is the only reas9n for getting involved. Jusy questuonning as it cannot be the onky reason x

acatcalledjohn · 03/09/2018 07:37

Why would anyone sign up to a scheme where >97% of people lose money, @TheRealHousewifeofCheshire?

That's right. Because they've been brainwashed in to believing that they will make money.

Why else would a rational person sign up when the failure rate speaks for itself?
