We want to go away for Christmas markets this year, end of November beginning Of December but we can’t decide where. If you have been too a few, which ones would you recommend for family of 4. Kids will be 4 and 2.

Quite fancying Copenhagen or Reykjavik, but also loved Berlin on a summer get away. We are open to any option!

The Brussels and Leuven ones are good. Aachen is supposed to be fantastic as well.

Salzburg and Rottenburg aub der Tauber are both beautiful places to visit and have lovely markets.

Thankyou for all the suggestions! We didn’t think about Vienna, that one might be a winner!

Second vote for Bruges

Basel in Switzerland.

Been to Berlin, Vienna and Bratislava in recent years, to do markets and a little sightseeing. Vienna was prettier than Berlin and less commercial, and Bratislava was small but perfect. Going to Gothenburg this year.

For small children, I think Berlin would be better than Vienna - if you stay somewhere near the Brandenburg gate there’s plenty to do within a close area, including two markets (one with fairground type attractions too).

Bruges or Munich

The best one I've ever been to in the UK is Manchester. It's much better for crowd control because although the larger main market is by the town hall, there are several smaller one dotted about so it's less likely to be overcrowded - people tend to go between the different sites. You see a lot of the city without even trying so it's nice for a night or two away.

Bruges, it's lovely.

Hamburg, Munich, Nuremberg, Vienna are all good choices for the Xmas markets. It depends then a bit on what else you like when visiting a city. Vienna has certainly everything, so has, to a lesser degree, Munich.

Budapest has an amazing Christmas market

Berlin is great!

I’ve been to the Christmas markets in Vienna. Although it’s a beautiful city (I’d love to go back), I didn’t think the markets were great. There was a lot of tat and lots of the stalls selling the same things. It was also very expensive. I was so disappointed.

I’ve also been to Budapest where I loved the markets. There were a lot more crafty and handmade bits. It was fairly cheap (markets and the city in general). It was freezing though.

I’d like to try somewhere new this year. I just can’t decide where.
