Ladies with long hair help!!

Posting for traffic.

I’m looking for your opinions on a (possibly!) new project. Those of you with long hair, what problems do you face with umbrellas?

Would you use an umbrella that was slightly longer and wider at the back, so that when you held the umbrella upright, or slightly titled at the back, it would still keep your longer hair dry?

If so, what would you be willing to pay for it?

Are there any other problems you have with them?

Thanks for your help I really appreciate it!!

I hate umbrellas, the wind catches them, they use up a hand, you have to be careful as you pass people. Hoods are much, much better.

Welshdragon1975 · 01/09/2018 20:21

Thankyou!! Really appreciate that feedback!

I too tuck my hair into my jacket, but taking with friends a few nights ago, who were complaining about this as it was raining (drizzling more to be honest!) and they weren’t wearing jackets (too warm), I wondere if there was maybe a need out there? (But at the same one wondering if then they surely would have made one by now!!)

Oh well scrub out my wish list of things I was going to buy with my millions!!! Lol

I don't use an umbrella. Like others have said, I tuck my hair in the back of my coat & put my good up.

dragonslair · 01/09/2018 20:25

Or I put my hair up. Has never occurred to me that this needed a "solution"

Welshdragon1975 · 01/09/2018 20:25

Excuse the spelling mistakes (before the grammar police come along!!)

No I wouldn't use any of those. I'm not that precious about my hair getting a few spatters of rain on it.

Honeyroar · 01/09/2018 20:28

Id just put my hair into a bun if a regular umbrella wasn't keeping me dry.

Twotailed · 01/09/2018 20:29

I’ve never been aware of this issue, sorry! I wouldn’t buy a special umbrella to solve the problem.

CheeseAndBeans · 01/09/2018 20:30

I have long hair and just tuck it in, and put my hood up. I don’t really use umbrellas as they are a pain with the kids, and pushing a buggy... but when I did I can’t remember wet hair being an issue.

SecretWitch · 01/09/2018 20:31

I keep a hair bobble to tie my hair up and stick it under my hood in case of rain or snow. Hate umbrellas, always feel as though I might puncture someone with one (am 4’11, so possibility exists)

GorgonLondon · 01/09/2018 20:32

I don't use an umbrella, CBA to carry one. I either wear a beanie hat or just get wet and swear a lot

highlandcoo · 01/09/2018 20:46

I do use an umbrella to protect my long hair that frizzes in the rain (no small kids so not a problem using up a free hand) and I don't think your idea is bad however there already exists an umbrella, as a PP said, which is transparent and effectively a hemisphere. Available in JL and other department stores. Costs about £15.
Sorry OP

AnnabelC · 01/09/2018 20:48

Definitely hoods. I am finding more and more the rain comes with wind y weather. I do live in the SW though.

PlateOfBiscuits · 01/09/2018 20:50

A mullet umbrella? Grin

aspoonfulofyourownmedicine · 01/09/2018 20:50

My hair is hip-length and I always have it tied up on the top of my head in a messy bun, even for bed, because my DH likes to sleep on it! ....... I'm just jealous of women who seem to have perfect hair, that doesn't blow in the wind, doesn't get wet, doesn't frizz, and doesn't get jammed in the blumming car door! If you find any suggestions for all of those, on top of your problem, I'll be sitting over here >>>>>>>>>>>

DieAntword · 01/09/2018 20:50

I have long hair and rarely use an umbrella. Nor do I find my hair gets wet when I do. Nor do I particularly care if it does. I mean if I’m going to catch my death of cold the soaked shoes and trousers will do it, my hair is just a sideshow at that point.

LyndorCake · 01/09/2018 21:03

Just....sweep your hair over your shoulder so it's not falling down your back. problem solved surely.

FermatsTheorem · 01/09/2018 21:11

Another hair-tucker/hood wearer here.

Sorry OP, I doubt there's a market for it (though I am loving the phrase "mullet umbrella").

amusedbush · 01/09/2018 21:40

They already exist.

I tuck my hair and use a hood though. I live in Glasgow where if it’s raining, it’s also blowing a gale so no umbrella here.

Another hoodwearer here - umbrellas are a pain in the arse. I'm not precious about my waistlength* hair and have it up most of the time in any case.

  • I could have described it as 'titlength', which would be just as accurate, frankly.
dudsville · 01/09/2018 21:51

I have long hair. I use umbrellas. I think they're suitable for the task.

cucumbergin · 01/09/2018 22:04

TBH as a bespectacled long haired person I kinda want to keep the rain off my face more than my hair. Prob going to look into the clear umbrella mentioned by pp because that sounds perfect.

My current preferred umbrella is windproof - it has two slightly overlapping layers so that if it catches the wind, the wind just vents through the gap instead of inverting the brolly.

Could do with one that was transparent and layered. Haven't found one on Amazon yet.

Everyoneiswingingit · 01/09/2018 22:05

Tie my hair up if raining.

recklessruby · 01/09/2018 22:58

I have long hair but when I m out and about it's usually in a messy bun.
In rain I just put my hood up or get wet. I hate umbrellas. In Aberdeen they turn inside out with the wind anyway.

adviceonthepox · 01/09/2018 22:59

As a big girl I want an umbrella that doesn't drip water on my behind!
