We were on holiday in Turkey a couple of weeks ago, the hotel was awash with kittens (Hotel cats , I think there were 3 adult females , plus assorted kittens)

One of them loitered around the bar, very sweet.
I nearly got myself arrested for telling off a brattish boy who came over just to shout in the cat's face Angry . His Dad and I gave each other severe evils after.

Awww he is so cute, love the picture of you holding him😻😻😻

Pigsdofly

In general this is true but I think again it depends on the cat. Our Biggie will not eat human food. Won't do it. Not even tuna, although he likes tuna water. If you give Biggie a little bit of meat or something he won't eat it. Just sits there and looks at until one of the other cats makes off with it. He does like commercial cat treats and will meow insistently for his share when they're on offer.

Then again, as I've said before, Biggie is a little strange. We adopted him at age 2 from a shelter. We don't know what his previous background was - the shelter didn't tell us anything and it's possible they didn't even know. He is a lovely cat and very affectionate but a bit thick. I think we could bring home a hamster or even a mouse and would likely try to make friends with it. He has almost no hunting instinct. (I joke that his idea of hunting is you hunt down a likely looking sucker and then you act like a total sap until they are won over and feed you.)

agnurse Agree it does depend on the cat. My ginger male, sadly no longer alive, loved everyone and didn't have a mean bone in his body, except where mice were concerned.

He had a special meow that he'd use when he was bringing a mouse through the cat flap, calling everyone to come and enjoy his catch. At which point he'd release the mouse and we'd have to try to catch it before it hid behind anything too heavy; always the same routine and it went on for years. He always brought home live mice, obviously hoping that eventually we'd learn how to hunt for ourselves.

He was 17 when I got my dog as an 8 week old puppy 7 years ago. He welcomed her into the house and they became the best of friends. Unfortunately he became very ill and had to be pts 5 years ago. Lovely, lovely cat. I still miss him.

Oh I so shouldn't have looked at this thread. We've already got a cat, ducks, dragon, 2 DDs and another on the way. I cannot get a kitten (right now Wink )

Such beautiful cats on this thread. Love them all!

So the dog intro didn't go too well....

The dog was brilliant and wanted to say hello, but chip cat is not so keep. Lots of hissing and growling (I never knew cats could growl!)
We've had a bit of progress since in the sense that they've both been on the floor at the same time (at first I thought the kitten was going to spend the rest of his.life on my head!)

And hey no one died yet. Although my poor dog did get his.nose scratched when he got too curious bless him.

I've been giving him lots of treats and cuddles and fuss to make up for bringing this violent interloper into his life.

Fingers crossed they will be fine in a few days but any advice would be greatly appreciated

thisonebreath · 01/09/2018 21:07

Although one with wings would be awesome!

agnurse · 01/09/2018 23:00

OP you should go on YouTube and look up the Talking Kitty Cat channel. It's done by a guy called Steve who gives his animals voices. Specifically you should look at the episode called BAD! BAD! BAD! Steve took in a stray kitten and named her Random Kitten. He was going to introduce her to his other two cats, Sylvester and Gibson, and his dog Shelby. It didn't go off the best. Random Kitten referred to all of them as bad. She was introduced to Shelby and sat on the back of the couch saying "Bad! Bad! Bad!" Steve told her she was going to give Shelby a complex and Shelby wasn't bad, she'd only tried to eat Sylvester one time Grin The good news is that over time Random Kitten eventually adapted. She and Gibson had kittens that Steve named the Random Gibsons. Random Kitty let Shelby go in to see her kittens (Shelby liked kittens. It just takes time.
