Bitey dog in pub

(Preface to say I spent six weeks in intensive care having been bitten by a dog and contracting sepsis)

I bloody love dogs

In a pub last night, dog on lead runs up to me, about a metre from owner. I say to dog - hello, are you friendly, owner tells me to stay away as dog has bitten people before.

At first I think he's taking the piss because his dog is at my feet; the owner claims it's a short lead so it's my responsibility to step away. I do because I'm not an idiot, but say there's small children running around. Response was "Children should be in bed at 7pm"

I point out this is a pub, it's quite busy and the dog, if it has bitten should be muzzled. Manager comes over, and I explain what has happened and point out the pub have a duty of care - I was hacked off with the owner by this stage. Manager claims the pub won't be responsible for any injuries caused by the dog and the dog won't be leaving; and I say something along the lines of "actual you would be responsible as the owner has (now just admitted to the manager) that the dog is a biter and people need to stay away; just like you would be if someone said they had a knife".

Dog owner shouts " it's a public place, it's just like the park, do you want me to not walk him anywhere".

I walked away, we finished our drinks and left to meet our friends elsewhere.

I'm meant to be doing a review on the pub for families with kids; I now want to tell them to avoid because I'd hate for a kid to get bitten.

wasn't in north London was this?as a nice new pub has opened round corner from me which allows dogs in !!!!!often dogs just wander around unaccompanied on there on with owners not noticing

We were in a kids’ science museum and my son went to stroke a dog

Why on earth do you allow your kids to approach random dogs and stroke them?

Op def write the review hope they lose customers for it. What a ridiculous situation. Manager wont be so cocky when a customer sues his ass off after being bit.

YANBU. Not at all.

In my area, as I understand it, if a dog bites once it's registered with the police. I know in the city if your dog has bitten you have to have it licensed as a "restricted dog". This means that the fee is more expensive and your animal CANNOT leave your yard without a leash AND a muzzle. If your yard isn't fully enclosed the dog MUST be tied up and wearing a muzzle. If the dog seriously injures or kills a person or other animal it can be seized by Animal Care & Control and they may start court proceedings to have the dog destroyed.

In the town where I live there are similar laws, except that if a vicious dog (same as "restricted dog"; just different terminology) isn't being restrained as required, Animal Control officers can actually seize the dog and start proceedings to have it destroyed.

Does the pub have a children`s licence?

Love my dog. He wont bite you but he's a yappy creature which can alarm people. I HATE people like this twunt, who endanger people around them and refuse to train and control their, dogs. Definitely mention the people one may encounter and the landlord's attitude in your review because I don't want to go there. If you're in the hospitality trade you need to be hospitable.

What a terrible owner. If the dog bites a kid it'll probably get pts :/ I've had dogs with behaviour problems before and saw it as my responsibility as an owner to avoid situations that can aggravate.

Furrydogmum. Love your bastardbitch. My previous dog was a border collie. Calm, gentle, obedient, non-aggressive, everything you could want in a dog. Walking him, a family passed me, mum, dad, gran, kids. Dad 'o border collie, love them' promptly bent down and stuck his face right into my dogs face. Who promptly nipped him on the nose. It was so unexpected, my dog was on his lead, I couldn't believe a grown man could have done such a stupid thing. Fortunately the granny with him was his mother who said everything to him that I wanted to say myself about not approaching strange dogs and scaring them. I was lucky she was there though so he didnt get into a strop and report it to the police. It was a nip, not a savaging, so little harm done. But yes. Dont mess with strange dogs and teach your children how to approach animals correctly. And hopefully remember it into adulthood.

Irresponsible owner and manager. These jokers sound like the kind that should not be either. My friend's dog was attacked by a known biting dog, luckily wasnt killed. Another dog, a child, even an adult could set a 'biter' off.

Yes i would review honestly and state both of their attitudes and irresponsibility. You owe it to those reading the blog to be honest.

PLEASE write the review and add all this in. If I was a local, or considering visiting this area, I'd be thrilled to have advanced warning so as to avoid this place like the plague. You've got a unique and fortunate opportunity beyond the normal Trip Advisor reviews to (1) let readers know the truth about this place; and (2) name and shame the manager (and dog owner).

To be frank, I think it'd be very irresponsible not to let unsuspecting prospective patrons know about this. Chances are, the idiot dog owner is a regular, which means there's a high risk this dog will attack some unsuspecting person in the pub one day.

Even without the dog being present, the manager is obviously an arsehole and I'd rather not given my patronage to people/places like that.

I'm so glad I live somewhere animals (except guide dogs) are not allowed inside most establishments, especially food eating places.

Children should be in bed at 7 pm.

Wild and feral owners with wild and feral dogs should not be allowed in pubs.
He doesn't sound like he can control himself let alone a dog. I have always believed that people should be throughly vetted to see if they are suitable owners before they're allowed to have any pets. Both he and the owner of the pub won't be looking so smug if or when the dog seriously injures someone or heaven forbid worse. .
