To want people PAY to advertise their stores?!?!?!

StroppyandUnreasonable · 06/06/2007 16:17

I am sick of this whole "google me if you want to look at my store".

Its not putting up a link to your store, no, but it IS still advertising and quite frankly its f*cking rude.

There is an advertising section - £30 for 3 months. £10 a month. 33p a day.

Pay to advertise, or don't mention that you sell x,y & z. If you want MN for customers, then you should pay for them and then you can mention your store in any conversation you like, link to your ad, whatever.

If you don't want to pay, then just chat about whatever is your chosen subject be it craft stuff, pushchairs, clothes, nappies whatever.

Have namechanged because I don't want to directly piss off people, but DO want to rant where it can be seen (if that makes any sense whatsoever).

what about if the person is a regualr mner? i saw someone doing it the other day but didnt like to report it as they were a regular.

Flame · 07/06/2007 00:00

Madamez - that sort of situation isn't a regular thing is it? Its not the same as say selling tents, so only ever posting in the camping section when people want find out about tents.

Its the regular ones who aren't advertising that irritate me.

Flame · 07/06/2007 00:03

NA - if it is a regular overstepping the mark (which I know I did the other day ... started a thread about new stock because I couldn't remember which threads had the people asking me when they would be in), then its still wrong.

This seems to be my version of Twig's moral centre - but I'm not alone so tis ok

luciemule · 07/06/2007 00:05

This isn't the same as me telling someone in style that Next have got a really nice top is it?
You mean only people that are trying to sell their own company/stuff isn't allowed -
apart from the ad section?

Flame · 07/06/2007 00:06

lol, yes its just plugging your own stuff without paying for an ad. You can tell people about someone else's stuff all you like

twinsetandpearls · 07/06/2007 00:09

I think the problem with saying it is OK if regulars drop the odd advert is that when does one become a regular.

I consider myself a regular having been here four years. No offence to Flame but I do not know you but you claim to be a regular. Part of the problem is that mumsnet has become so big and almost anonymous.

it is the same issue as the selling threads who everynow and again I go and bark at as there are people blatantly selling on a semi professional basis or certainly doing more than selling the odd bit of old kids clothing.

nappyaddict · 07/06/2007 00:11

flame is most definitely a regular!!

although i do frequent the nappy board a lot.

someone on here the other day was reported for selling a few things. she is a regular, but not a regular seller of new stuff. it was just a one off. i felt a bit bad for her cos its not like she has a proper business she was just trying to make a few extra pounds.

Flame · 07/06/2007 00:14

Anyone mentioning that they do this or that as a one off doesn't bother me (in the Madamez example), it is the frequent ones.

twinsetandpearls · 07/06/2007 00:16

I am not saying that she isn't but that is my point that because mumsnet is so big now one persons regular is another newbie.

twinsetandpearls · 07/06/2007 00:16

sorry flame

Flame · 07/06/2007 00:20

lmao - not offended

twinsetandpearls · 07/06/2007 00:21

I have probably wittered away with you at length and forgotten.

Flame · 07/06/2007 00:28

Was flamesparrow if that's any help

twinsetandpearls · 07/06/2007 01:13

you are scaring me now.

Flame · 07/06/2007 07:53

My work here is done....

musicianswidowAKAmumofmonsters · 07/06/2007 10:26

imo..hang on let me bold that....IMO if someone is a regular and people know that that poster sells a certain thing then linking to their AD with their website on is fine,. treading on ppls toes and saying well she might do X but i can do X at this price is rude. especialy if you haven;'t paid for the privilage of telling MNetters that you have a business in the first place.

I know of regular posters that are promoting their business despite not paying for an ad, and i do report them. Its not fair on the ones who have scrimped and saved to aford an ad in the first place

I don't think there is any danger of Mr Next posting and saying what do you think of this top come and buy all my stock

nappyaddict · 08/06/2007 02:29

what about if it is not a proper business though but a regular just selling some stuff as a one off?

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 08/06/2007 02:57

I recently asked in the 'products' section if people would have a use for/ buy a particular thing I am making. Iy wasn't an addvert, and I didn't give any links etc, but one person said she would like one and if I made some to send her some pictures.
Does that count as advertising?

nappyaddict · 08/06/2007 07:42

it does but i think for one person i wouldn't be bothered about it. if you were going to do it on a large scale then i think you should pay the fee.
