Aibu to let him go back to sleep ( neck injury)

we just heard an almighty crash and scream and ran thru to DS’s (9)room to find him on hands and knees on floor. He sleeps in a platform bed, about 5 foot high. I have no idea how he fell out ( it has a barrier around it) and he can’t tell me. I suspect he might of climbed out in his sleep. He has an angry swollen red red mark on the back of his neck, and his ear. He says nothing else hurts. He can walk, talk and use all his limbs. We’ve given him paracetamol and applied ice for 10 mins. We could eventually console him. And now he’s asleep In our bed. Planning on setting an alarm to observe him every couple of hours and make sure he’s rousable. AiBU to not take him to hospital? It seems a long way to fall and neck injuries can be serious?

If you’re thinking about it I would say call 101 but be prepared to go to a&e

My brother used to fall out of his captains bed all the time and he’s fine. He’s a bit of an arse but absolutely fine.

I know 101 will tell us to go to a and e. They alwAys do.

I also know head injury protocol pretty well ( 2 dyspraxic kids so they’ve both been in overnight twice with for concussion) and I know they generally don’t start to worry until they’ve blacked out/been sick over six times/ have fluid leaking from their ears. I know too that all they’ll do is try and rouse Ds every hour or so.

But are neck injuries different? He was on his hands and knees, so I don’t think he landed on his neck.

Call 111, ask them for advise.

I genuinely don’t know as only first aid trained.

If there’s a doubt in the back of your mind then personally I would bundle into the car and get him looked over. Hope he’s okay x

Take him. If he has a mark on his neck then he obviously hurt it in some way. He may not be in a massive amount of pain, but neck injuries don't always present like that. For that reason alone I'd be being safe and going to hospital.
Good luck, hope he is fine.

It is a long way to fall and the ability to walk and talk does not rule out a fracture, I would take him or at least call 111 for advice.

I used to do that frequently as a kid from my cabin bed and never done any damage. However I would call and ask for advice just for peace of mind.
