Who's fault is this ?

Around the end of July, I ordered a small amount of heating oil off a company I've used before.

When he came, all was fine. I was in the living room with the DC's (both under 3)

He finished, gave the receipt as usual, all fine.

When DP came home he noticed and freaked out that the cap of the tank wasn't put back on and it had been heavily raining all day - (I never even noticed)

We had the oil on for hot water for showers and all was fine until we got a top up of oil today from the petrol station .. the boiler wouldn't restart and it's not working. Google said it needs drained and the boiler needs drained?

I've never had this problem before if anyone not putting the tank cap back on? So I'm not sure whose fault this is.

It's a tough one, how long ago did they deliver, do you have any proof?

This can happen with boilers, it's quite common.

You may have an over ride switch depending in the boiler

It isn't expensive - but go and watch what they do!

Must of been the 27th of July. It was online so I just have a confirmation email?

It was an in and out thing but I know nothing about boilers so I wouldn't even have thought to check if he had closed the lid as it's never happened before!

I don't think you can blame the delivery driver, surely if it had been water in the tank you would've had problems before today?

Haberpop · 30/08/2018 19:44

Is your tank fitted with an alarm?

MiMr · 30/08/2018 19:45

@Haberpop I wondered that too. Once there is oil in the tank the boiler is restarted and keeps firing until there's no oil left.

Put oil in today, tried to restart it but it's not coming on. DP thinks it's because water got into the tank that day!

I haven't a clue!

I haven't a clue. It was looked at and fixed last year as it was leaking and the neighbours could smell it when they were redoing their kitchen floor!

Did you run it dry or very low? Air gets in the line and you have to draw some through before it'll restart.

With my boiler there is a place where you can put an alan key and turn it just a bit. Then press restart, it should spit out a bit of oil so take a jam jar or some rags. Keep retrying until it restarts then tighten the Alan key back up.

@GoldenBlue I haven't a clue what you just said Grin but I'll mention to DP and get him to have a look, cheers!

I am not sure that you can get oil at a petrol station that goes into an oil tank for heating.

MiMr · 30/08/2018 20:05

@ReservoirDogs

There's a separate place around the side of the station of Kerosene oil for people who already have drums.

Cool - I will look locally to see if we have that too!
