To think my cat needs a vet sooner than Tuesday

I've booked my cat in at the vets, earliest they can do is Tuesday.

He seems to have an ear infection, and I'm worried it might be pretty bad. There are no visible signs but it stinks like nothing I've ever known. It's really awful. And I've just realised that even though he went outside half an hour ago, I can literally smell what rooms he's been in. It's a very offensive odour, and it's definitely coming from his ear. He doesn't seem to be in pain, he's not shaking his head or holding his ear to the side or scratching it or anything. I can't see any redness or swelling. He is experiencing enough discomfort with it thay he doesn't want me to look in it, but he's happy to be stroked and scratched around it.

Can anybody in the know tell me if this strong smell is a sign that he might need an emergency appointment?

It can be an abcess in the ear. My boy had one, and the pus ran down the inside of his ear rather than the outside, even though the scratch was on the outside. was very odd.

I think if it’s a free Vet then it’s understandable there’s a bit of a wait. They have a lot of animals to see and limited resources.

Would insurance be an option, in case there is anything wrong with DCat in the future? I have it for my cat and it’s about £6 a month.

Poor cat, I have a cat when suffers with ear problems. He had a big infection earlier this year, it smelled and when I looked his ear was full of deep impacted wax. I started to try and get little bits out and got a large chunk but when this came away my goodness - the stench!!
He was treated by the vet who flushed his ear, lots of pus, wax & blood from deep inside. He also had a shot of anti biotic. I think he needs to be seen before Tuesday ☹️

I'll update here tomorrow with the verdict.
I'll leave him his water and give him his wet food like normal tonight, but take up his dry food so he can't have anything in the morning.

Wish me luck getting him in the carrier.

He does not approve of the carrier.

He is going to poo in the carrier.

My cats also hate the carrier - one hides under the kitchen, the other splays all 4 legs out so you can't get them in the hole 😂

I hope he gets sorted soon

We've just got back from the vets. He has an abscess quite far down in his ear. He's on painkillers and I have to clean it twice a day, and take him back for antibiotics if it doesn't look better soon but they don't want to give them straight away because its burst and is draining.

He tore a hole through the side of his carrier on the way there in the car and got out. That was an interesting highlight.

Bless him. Hope he feels better soon

Poor old stinky cat! I’m impressed by his escape antics although I’m guessing it was less impressive and more stressful for you!
