Broken laptop (warning: petty thread)

Please help me settle this petty dispute between me and my OH

His laptop is broken. I don't know whether or not it's my fault...

He left it on the edge of the bed, I didn't see it and I moved the duvet. Laptop fell on the floor (whoops)

He then turns it on and the screen's broken from the inside (whoops again)

He's now saying that it's my fault.

Unfortunately for me, I broke his last one because he left it on the floor next to his coffee and I accidentally kicked it over.

Is it my fault? AIBU to say that he shouldn't have been so bloody thoughtless? Hmm

Off out I go to pay excess of £100 to get it fixed...

No it’s not your fault, who leaves their expensive breakable items on the floor near hot drinks or on the edge of a bed? Even my children know to take better care of their tech than that!

It's his own stupid fault! Who leaves a laptop on the edge of a bed?

RibbonAurora · 29/08/2018 11:53

If he doesn't want his precious tech devices getting accidentally damaged then he needs to put them somewhere they're not going to get trodden on, spilled on or knocked off onto the floor.

If he can't look after his expensive kit and keep it safe why should you pay for his laziness - stuff that

Haquina · 29/08/2018 11:57

Was it completely concealed under the duvet?

I'd say the other incident was a bit your fault, but it was an accident and seriously, he needs to leave his precious possessions in secure locations, not leave drinks on the floor, not leave drinks near anything that could be damaged if they spill and not leave things where you wouldn't reasonably expect them to be, let alone that they're not in plain sight.

I think it’s his fault for leaving his expensive laptop in a precarious place. It’s not like you were the one using it carelessly when it was broken! He is BU.

dingdongdigeridoo · 29/08/2018 11:58

His fault. Are you supposed to tip toe around the house all the time in case something expensive is on the floor? Are you supposed to check the duvet every time you fluff it up in case he’s put something on the bed? He should put things in a safe place.

MarthaArthur · 29/08/2018 11:59

You are both to blame but accidents happen.

oSorryNotSorryo · 29/08/2018 13:11

Well after the first accident he should have learnt to be more careful with his new lap top and put it somewhere safe! YANBU
