To want to live on my own

I have this dream that once DC reach (very young) adulthood, we'll swap our house for three small log cabins. One for me, one for DH, one as a holiday let which DC can stay in when they visit. Everyone will be responsible for their own stuff and I will never pick up a soggy towel or empty crisp packet again.

I realise I haven't quite thought through the practicalities like money and how I get DC to move out but a reasonable starting place for a dream?

Sounds like heaven on earth. Please build another one for me! YANBU!

HollowTalk · 28/08/2018 18:30

That's a great idea! How many hundreds of miles would be they be apart?

Frankenterfer · 28/08/2018 18:31

I would love to live alone!

EmpressOfSpartacus · 28/08/2018 18:32

YANBU. I live alone & it's heaven.

SeaViewBliss · 28/08/2018 18:34

YANBU. DD has just moved into a flat and her flat mate doesn’t arrive til next week.

I am so envious of her space and peace!

NancyDonahue · 28/08/2018 18:36

This is my dream too. I love my family and want to be near them, but crave a place of my own.

ThrownMuse · 28/08/2018 18:37

I dream of living in a small whitewashed fisherman's hut at Portland Bill.

DP wants a place in a nearby town so he can still look in record shops and see bands.

DS will be touring the world as a pro scooterist.

I never want to cook or turn the telly on ever again.

confusedandemployed · 28/08/2018 18:39

I have the best of both worlds. I live alone half the time and DD is with me the other half. I also work from home. I can't quite work out why my house is still a tip Confused

wantmorenow · 28/08/2018 18:39

I dream of putting things down and them staying there until I need them again finding my hair straighteners in my bedroom rather than my daughter's floor. Would be bliss.

When I dropped my eldest off at halls at Uni for his first year, I was soooo jealous. He had a room with a bed, a desk, a small en-suite and use of a shared kitchen. I was planning where my coffee maker would go and all sorts.

HollowTalk · 28/08/2018 19:05

I was jealous of halls, too! Lovely little room, someone cleaning the communal areas, living near your mates, out every night!

OutrageousFlavourLikeFreesias · 28/08/2018 20:24

Dear God that is GENIUS

How can we all make this happen? Can we all club together and buy some land?

This might be my DH's best chance of surviving to retirement Grin

SeaViewBliss · 29/08/2018 09:46

Maybe we could negotiate with a Univeristy that will let us all live in halls in the holidays?!

Loyaultemelie · 29/08/2018 12:31

Oh yes! That sounds like bliss. I often think my happiness would be a tiny stone cottage in the wilds of Yorkshire with nobody for miles but haven't figured out how to get rid of dh but this would work. Only another 15 years until dd2 is 18
