I just checked NHS Jobs on a whim to see if I could get some feedback from my application and I've got an interview request for tomorrow! What do I wear?

It's for a scrub nurse role, currently doing a lot of prep on the trust 🤦‍♀️ please help me!

That was quick! Just wear a blouse/top and trousers/skirt, with leather shoes. I don't think it matters too much, just look clean and tidy.
Good luck!

Jamboree05 · 28/08/2018 17:42

Nice pant suit and shirt.
Nice dress.
Nice skirt and top combo.

What did you already have in your wardrobe?

agnurse · 28/08/2018 17:43

Business casual would be appropriate. I'd suggest a skirt or dress simply because they tend to give the best impression.

Jamboree05 · 28/08/2018 17:43

Do not did.

🤨 Bloody autocorrect.

StarfishSandwich · 28/08/2018 17:44

In my experience of interviewing for NHS jobs, smart casual is completely acceptable. A blouse and some slacks or a knee length dress and a cardigan? I wouldn’t worry about dressing really formally.

Newyoiker · 28/08/2018 17:45

@oldsockeater I think all the emails went into my junk folder? I applied about 3 weeks ago and heard nothing so I assumed I'd not got it but wanted feedback on why I didn't get shortlisted. But I did!

I've got a red check dress from Next that is smart ish.

If you are going to wear the red check dress, you need to throw a jacket over it. It seems a little bit of an odd choice for an interview. Do you have anything in a more sober colour that does not have strong prints.

CoperCabana · 28/08/2018 17:49

I think that looks fine.

To a previous poster, why would a skirt or dress give the best impression? For any job, let alone a scrub nurse?

Corrag · 28/08/2018 17:50

Really? Why?

CoperCabana · 28/08/2018 17:52

@Corrag x-post!

Starlighter · 28/08/2018 17:56

Tartan dress is nice but a bit strong for an interview. Have you got anything a bit more muted?

Newyoiker · 28/08/2018 17:57

Yeah I think I'm gonna need to go to Tesco or Asda and get a plain black dress 🤦‍♀️

A pant (trouser) suit is a bit dated. But could be perfectly fine for a scrub nurse.

fixingabrokenhesrt · 28/08/2018 18:05

Don't wear red for in interview. Definitely keep it more plain colours (black, grey white, navy)

CoperCabana · 28/08/2018 18:07

I just don’t get it. This and the brown shoes thread is boggling my mind.

FASH84 · 28/08/2018 18:11

Smart casual is fine, trousers or skirt and nice top or dress, with a dress I'd probably wear a cardi or jacket over the top, flat shoes fine as long as they are fairly smart. Similar to my industry, also public sector. You'd only expect a suit for a senior management role. Even for my middle management role I wore a dress and MOJ senior level secondment, patterned dress, blazer, back tights and biker type boots. It's different to city finance!

Newyoiker · 28/08/2018 18:43

Thanks all. It really has been years since I last interviewed I think I just panicked a bit
