To be upset by the airbrushed babies in the Evian ad

Synchro swimming babies with their front bottoms airbrushed out. It's horrible, makes lovely babies seem like sex objects. There is nothing more innocent than a baby's naked body. Also it assumes the audience is full of paedos. Sad.

never noticed this - my kids love this ad!

bookthief · 05/06/2007 23:45

I never even noticed. How odd.

I find the increasing sexualisation of little children, from innapropriate t-shirt slogans to bikinis for toddlers pretty repellent personally.

ChrissyJ · 05/06/2007 23:47

That's funny isn't it - was the first thing I noticed about it and DH commented too. Wonder if they have changed it recently.

Yes I noticed that too. So why put little babies on at all, or why not do camera angles where you can't see their front bottoms or winkles so no need for airbrushing? the airbrushing just draws attention to that part of their bodies.

Clary · 05/06/2007 23:52

Yes it's bizarre isn't it. DH says maybe if they drink Evian they'll grow genitalia!

Actually they airbrush out genitalia on naked children in the bath eg in shows like Supernanny now, which is just very sad.

hippipotami · 06/06/2007 08:18

I noticed this too, and it really bugs me. It indeed appears to assume the audience is full of paedos. I find it very disturbing, either use naked babies, or make a different ad!

Katy44 · 06/06/2007 08:25

I noticed this and thought it was very sad.

nogoes · 06/06/2007 08:51

I agree it is very sad.

bubblerock · 06/06/2007 09:07

I agree, It does look weird and it's horrible that they had to do this - I guess they would have had complaints if they had left them in too. Was there any controversy over the Nirvana album cover when that was released, I don't remember - I have the album and haven't really thought about it tbh.

saintmaybe · 06/06/2007 09:11

But YUCK, that ad is so vile anyway. Crappy CGI, looks so weird and ugly.

Lol at front bottoms and winkles

rhubarb90 · 06/06/2007 10:54

I agree, why use that ad campaign if they're worried about such things? Or why didn't they have the babies wearing swimming costumes if it's that much of a problem? About the Nirvana 'Nevermind' cover, I read in a biography of the band that two covers were considered, one where the baby's bits were airbrushed out but it wasn't used in the end. Some stores in the US apparently put a sticker over the area so as not to offend people though. The world's mad sometimes.

Mindles · 06/06/2007 10:56

I hate that advert it freaks me out. When I was a kid I had a nightmare that I was looking into an operating theatre where they were removing people bits and making them smooth like Barbie and Ken. Agree with OP really can't imagine genuine paedophiles getting their kicks from a 30 sec water advert.

TheApprentice · 06/06/2007 11:01

Ugghh! That ad really freaks me out.

suzycreamcheese · 06/06/2007 11:03

dh noticed this too the other night..it looks very weird..

thought it was for child protection or something but strange to the eye and not necessary really...

suzycreamcheese · 06/06/2007 11:06

bubblerock..i have it too and remember no 'to do' over it...

it looks more natural...lol..ykwim..

Pennies · 06/06/2007 13:40

I noticed this last night - perfect example of making something more conspicuous by its absence. If they had been au naturel or wearing some kind of nappy / knickers then it would never have entered my head that there was an issue.

Do you think it's because of fear of titillating paedophiles really? Or just PC "gone mad"?

binker · 06/06/2007 13:47

I noticed it too - they could have put them all in cute stripy swimsuits

LieselVentouse · 06/06/2007 14:38

I just hate that advert - that and the one for the NSPCC with the China doll

expatinscotland · 06/06/2007 14:40

Front bottom.

FFS.

Now that is what is horrible!

nickytwotimes · 06/06/2007 14:41

not seen it yet - sounds weird!

ginster76 · 06/06/2007 14:50

v. intrigued now will have to record it on skyplus lol- perhaps us brits have a rep for paedo paranoia, it's in the news quite a lot that we are a cotton wool bunch over here and in other european countries there's less fear of men as child carers etc, just less parenting paranoia generally.......>?

donnie · 06/06/2007 14:51

didn't they used to have nappies on?

It's very odd and quite spooky looking. I don't know why they didn't just put nappies on them.

flibbertyjibbet · 06/06/2007 22:47
