Can I take all painkillers to the US?

I know IABU to ask a daft question 🙈 but better safe than sorry!

Are there restrictions on taking prescription painkillers into the US? In particular I am thinking about my mefenamic acid. It wouldn’t be a huge amount but I just want to be sure. Should I also bring a copy of my prescription?

Bring a copy of script
It's only an anti inflammatory so I don't see why not

Thanks! I can’t inagine it would be an issue but I thought I’d better try and avoid being the idiot who gets detained by border security because they didn’t check the rules Grin

I don't know about that one but I take Naproxen with me, you can buy those off the shelf in the US and other medication that's on prescription here. The only time the US authorities have taken an interest in our bags has been when we've flown in via Amsterdam, couldn't fathom that to begin with!

It's never a problem to bring in prescription medication when it's prescribed to you. Have it in its original container with the script in your name which should match your name in your passport. For opioids which are controlled substances I would bring a letter in English from your doctor too so you are fully covered.

What Want2 said.

And go to a big Walgreens or CVS when you are there and see what you can get off the shelf - tubs of 1000 ibruprofen, for example Grin
