Toy kitchen for 5 year old?

Do your 5 year olds+ still play with their toy kitchens? Contemplating getting one for my LGs birthday but unsure if she's getting too big for that sort of thing.

The 4 year olds in the nursery i worked at loved their play kitchen. So I think at 5 she still would enjoy role play. :-) it's better for play than any electronic stuff at that age. Makes their imagination grow.

garethsouthgatesmrs · 28/08/2018 00:26

Yes my 5 year old does. My 7 year old wouldnt though so i think you might find that in another year or so she will have grown out of it.

IWantMyHatBack · 28/08/2018 00:26

DS is almost 5 and its one of his favourite things.

Talkingfrog · 28/08/2018 00:56

My daughter still did at that age for a little while. She is 7 and we still have them. They are not played with much now, but the picnic/tea sets still get used.
Picked her up the other day after work and she and my mother in law had made play doh cakes and biscuits and the tea set was out. She served us tea and very colourful cakes and biscuits.

We also have a proper cup of tea made by my mother in law too Grin

My DS played with his until he was about 8. I would hear him pretending to be a YouTube chef. Grin

These days (11) he uses the proper kitchen. And very good he is too!

dobbythedoggy · 28/08/2018 01:07

My almost 6 year old still loves her kitchen.

Dieu · 28/08/2018 01:13

The wooden IKEA one is very good. Go for it!

woollytights · 28/08/2018 04:42

I also recommend the ikea one. Lovely quality and sits in our kitchen diner, blends in nicely.

donquixotedelamancha · 28/08/2018 08:09

DD nearly 5 and plays with it daily. Look carefully at the height of whatever you order- some are a lot smaller than they look.

DanSullivan · 28/08/2018 08:12

My five yo plays with her play kitchens. She has one at each GP’s house (an ikea one and an Aldi one), because our living space is too small, so they haven’t lost the novelty.

cornnotonacob · 28/08/2018 08:16

Children in my class (yr 1) still love playing with toy kitchen.

Littlelambpeep · 28/08/2018 08:30

I'd get the ikea one
You could always sell it on

sarcasmisnotthelowestformofwit · 28/08/2018 08:32

My six year old doesn't play with hers anymore. We've just donated it to the local nursery.

Stompythedinosaur · 28/08/2018 08:37

My 5 yo still plays with ours, as does my 7 yo (although less often).

bambootwentytwo · 28/08/2018 08:39

Neither of mine (6&9) play with theirs anymore but they both love the tea set still!

SparkyBlue · 28/08/2018 08:41

Santa brought one here two years ago. It's like a bloody ornament taking up space and neither of them ever play with it. They are now three and almost six.

Wobblington · 28/08/2018 08:42

My nearly 6 year old does still play with hers but it's morphed mostly into a cafe. We have the IKEA kitchen and it's pulled out so she can use the gap as a serving hatch and stick menus and posters on the back for her cafe. Legs are adjustable so it has two heights

HidingFromMyKids · 28/08/2018 08:45

We have this one. It is huge so you need the space for it but as its tall it will take much longer to grow out of then the others.

The main reason I love it is how much storage it provides. Lego, puzzles, books, board games, drawing books, pens, toy food and cutlery all hidden away Grin but doesn't stop it being played with as a kitchen.

livingthegoodlife · 28/08/2018 08:47

My daughter has one and got a wooden washing machine and microwave to go with it for her 5th birthday. Still v popular here.

Thehop · 28/08/2018 09:03

Yes definitely! X

5000KallaxHoles · 28/08/2018 09:54

My 5 and 6 year olds still play with theirs - more in terms of setting out overly elaborate picnics than actually "cooking" in it but they've never really got into the cooking... Ikea one.

Trumpton · 28/08/2018 10:09

Ikea one here . 6&7 year old dgc play with it all the time in their house .
We have a cheaper one (Letterbox ) in my house that has a washing machine door currently being used as a kitten house with the fire guard as a pen !
