to have to stay in expensive hotel for sister's wedding even tho' we've got a cottage 15 mins away

Sister's getting married...demanding we all stay in the mansion hotel she's marrying in - at £145/night. We've already forked out £280 for flights and a cottage (£870) fifteen minutes away from hotel. Our dd (aged 2) will want her bed at 10pm latest - so we'll be in our room from then - and we won't see them at breakfast cause..well..it's been their wedding night and our kids wake at 6am so we eat early. Am I being unreasonable to think she's being totally insensitive to our financial situation (only one of us works)?

agree with Aitch - Just tell her you are sorry, you don't want the room and you are sure someone else may be better off having it, as you HAVE already booked the cottage, and made special plans so that you can be at her wedding anyway.

She should not be 'demanding' that you stay.

hex am soooo at your family! Espesh given the pressure cooker approach you've taken, lawd love ya. I actually think you should send them a request for a retrospective GOOD wedding pressie for you and your dh in their card, along with their Debenham's voucher for a fiver

...lol!! you know..even though I absolutely detest all that Renewal of Vows stuff..and would cringe my way thru the whole thing...I might just do it now..dh and I will have survived 10 years in 2008 - and we would love an exotic holiday (virtue of siblings' Thomas Cook vouchers!! minimum exchange value £100 each please!)

Outrageous

We got married in Scotland last year and we took the whole hotel and paid for all the family to stay their (well parents did )

Also invited some friends and as we had a bit of spare room in the hotel put some of them up free of charge. Thought that was fair as we had dragged them up from the south to bum f**k nowhere in Scotland.

It was worth it as everyone had a great party and the people with kids could have a good time as well. No worries about the kids waking up as everyone in the hotel was in the wedding party so if they woke up and wandered down not a problem.

But I would never have demanded that people stayed in the hotel and paid for it. Very cheeky.

10 years equals a fortnight in the Maldives courtesy of your family at the very least!!
