Hi so my ds is nearly 14 and has had his heart set on being an RAF engineer for that last 5 years...

But he is colour blind and he knows he can't be a pilot or electrician 😢

Can anyone give me more info and advice please? His going to be so upset if he can't. Thanks

Welbeck usually have a stand at the Big Bang Science Fair in Birmingham in each (around March) which is free for families to go on a Saturday, so might be worth going next year if you want a chat with them - could ask beforehand if there will be anyone able to help on the stand.

Be wary of Welbeck unless he has a very robust and dominant personality. We considered it and rejected it because a senior officer friend advised against it. Several of my friends cohort went and were thoroughly miserable. I know one lad there at the moment who says bullying is still rife and ignored as initiating and high jinks. There have been quite serious child protection investigations fairly recently. Booklets are not the whole story. According to my sons colleagues who went through Welbeck, the ethos there is harder than the armed forces themselves.
Also be wary which pipeline your son chooses career wise - numerous pilots find themselves employed, trained and made redundant; same is true of some other branches. Engineers do get a very good deal whether they go through Welbeck or not.

He’d need to pass AIB or RCB to be eligible for Welbeck.
