To think we can leave bed bugs here

Been in a mobile home for 2 nights and last night I woke up feeling bites, now I’ve got some classic marks of bed bugs on my hip and side. About 8 bites in a row.

I spoke to the manager of the home and she had a good look around the bed etc and said there are no signs. She took me seriously but said she really didn’t think it was.

We’re leavong tomorrow, Aibu to think if these are bed bugs I can avoid taking them back with us? We are in our car and have loads of clobber, naturally. Any tips?

There was a thread on here a few days ago where the OP discovered bed bugs

Lots of good advice

Thanks I’ve had a read up. Seems like nothing comes inside the house until it all’s washed and fumigated.

I would be getting rid of everything you have an making sure the clothes you wear home are changed and then thrown away as you step through the door.
Someone I know works for a pest company and he said bed bugs are the worst as they can hibernate for ages which usually results in needing to get more than 1 treatment done to get rid of them

eco1636 · 26/08/2018 20:50

We have several £1000s of belongings here. And I haven’t actually seen anything- nobody else bitten just me.
Everyone thinks I’m being paranoid so lobbing all of stuff would be pretty hard tbh.

Are you sure they are not mosquito bites?

eco1636 · 26/08/2018 20:55

Yes I’ve some mozzie bites too and they are much larger and more raised - I have quite a reaction to them.

Have you had a look around the beds yourself?

You need to lift up any mattresses, look in the seams, deep in the frame.
Look for black spots on the mattress, again in the seams.

Look behind the headboard if you have one.

We unfortunately and completely unknowingly brought back bed bugs last year. Our fabric cases had been stored under the beds on holiday (never again!)

I spent upwards of £5000 getting treatment, getting a new bed and bedding etc and I'm still super paranoid now - sounds stupid but I was an emotional wreck at the time.

Really do check the bed yourself, you need to know.

PixelAteMe · 26/08/2018 21:04

Could they be cat flea bites?

bionicnemonic · 26/08/2018 21:08

people don't always react to the bites...you may just be lucky! or it could be a cat/dog flea that got hungry

eco1636 · 26/08/2018 21:13

No no pets here.

FrankiesKnuckle - sorry to hear that. If you had known would you have thrown everything away?

We have all these Thule roofbox bags that were ££. I could steam clean each of them....

Also as we’re leaving tomorrow even if it is bedbugs I don’t want to disturb them too much right ?

OP posts:
FrankiesKnuckle · 26/08/2018 21:18

If I'd have known I would've taken measures.

All clothes washed and tumbled at 60 (where possible)

Our bags I would've thrown (I did anyway) instead of bringing into our home, unloading and storing under our ottoman bed!

BBs are hardy, sneaky bastards.

I really hope you don't have them!

FrankiesKnuckle · 26/08/2018 21:20

You won't 'disturb' them, they don't scuttle. If they're there you'll see them, or the black spots.

eco1636 · 26/08/2018 21:22

Black spots that are like blood splats and dried on. Or just tiny black things within he dust??

Quite a close up here of the corner of the bed

Those black things you can see are loose and not stick down.

Mattress encased in protection and looks ok

OP posts:
FrankiesKnuckle · 26/08/2018 21:27

Both!

The black spots are basically the faeces after s feed - your blood pooped out (grim)
They will vary in size depending on the size of the bug.

You'll find the majority around the seams as this is where they hide.

After last year, im almost an expert!

If in any doubt, treat as though you have them.

Do you have a large chest freezer at home? Could put large bags in there for a few days, apparently that can kill live bugs and eggs too.

PhilomenaButterfly · 26/08/2018 21:28

The camp DD was at had bedbugs. They boil washed all bedding and all damp clothes.

Whatsthisbear · 26/08/2018 21:30

Buy a can of raid- or several- spray everything and leave it tied in bin bags for a couple of days in the garage or in your garden.
I got bitten to death by bedbugs, no one else did, I had new bites every night but a spray of the mattress with some raid stopped any more bites so I assumed it kills them. Never came back with us in any case. Good luck

FrankiesKnuckle · 26/08/2018 21:30

Looking at that pic made me shudder!

If you close up to the join left/below the bolt that looks like a bug...

Obvs I'm only seeing in 2D, and as I said super paranoid.

FrankiesKnuckle · 26/08/2018 21:33

Close up.

Believeitornot · 26/08/2018 21:35

We had bed bugs. Only my husband reacted to the bites - we found them hiding behind a picture frame one morning but took ages to find them. They weren’t around the bed or more obvious places. Had the room fumigated!
I suspect we kept the infestation down because we used a tumble dryer for all bedding/clothes etc.....

So if I were you, take everything home in Black bags including the suitcases and bags etc. Then wash everything on high heat and tumble dry.

FrankiesKnuckle · 26/08/2018 21:36

Are these on the wood? Or just fluff?

TheMatteEffect · 26/08/2018 21:42

Are they all over you or just down one line?

When I had shingles it looked exactly like that...
