It's a rainy bank holiday. Had a full day visiting relatives and been to indoor climbing with DS but I'm bored now. How have the holidays been for you all? Any funny stories

OP I’m sorry to hear your DS is struggling too Sad I hope his school are giving him lots of support especially with it being secondary school and there being more pressures.
My DS has a long way to go before he starts secondary school. He had a moving up day at school and met his new teacher before they broke up. His new teacher is lovely. He’s also a male teacher and I keep hoping that a strong, positive male role model in the school environment will make a big difference for him.

We have had a great holiday. Away in UK twice (once with family) and then just days trips and enjoying having them home. It's the last one before DS starts school so making the most of it.

We have also had less spare money this holidays and havent done many spendy things.

Had a few days out, but mainly we have chilled at home, the kids have rode the ponies a lot, been to the allotment a lot, hung out in the park with ds and the dog. Dd (14) is a lot less tired and stressed.

I think next week I will let them chose somewhere to go as a treat. As it's the last week but they have both benefited from just relaxing more, rather than being taken to different places constantly.

That sounds positive funinthesun and might make all the difference. I only say it from experience as DS was a completely different person a couple of years ago under a particular teacher and I even considered homeschooling. But the next year and a really lovely teacher and he was so much better. Hope it goes well x

It's not a bank holiday for all of us, and we've had 9/12 weeks of holiday already!
Put it this way, if school didn't reopen on wednesday I'd be finding a boarding school that did.

Aww that’s great to hear about your DS CombineBananaFister. I’m glad he became happier at school again. I’m hoping DS will be the same and he has a much better year this year.

The holidays have gone really quickly. Dd been away for half of it and now all on holiday for final week.

Justabadwife · 26/08/2018 21:19

We've had a lovely summer.
We did a midweek trip away, and did a theme park.
Other than that we haven't done much, made dens, played board games wandered to the park.
DH has had 2 weeks off, I've had 2 different weeks off, the neighbours have looked after dd, we've had the neighbours kids, MIL has had dd a bit as well.
Dd is looking forward to getting back to school and seeing her mates.

We've had a U.K. holiday and lots of pottering around at home. We've had a puppy to stay these last two weeks of the holidays which has been different! DD2 can't wait to get back to school, she's been a nightmare. DD1 is 100% more relaxed and has been lovely to have around without the stresses of school and her anxieties. I will be sorry to see her go. And I will skip away from DD2's classroom joyfully! Wink

My child has ASC & ADHD, and it has been one long nightmare. I feel desperately depressed during holiday times. I'm lonely and struggle to meet up with friends whose kids don't have the challenges that we have.

I sound like a party pooper, but that has been our reality! I cant wait for school gates to open again!

I was thinking much the same - except that I already did send one off to boarding school Grin. She'd been home since the end of May and frankly we were both ready. Luckily she does actually like it there.

My others go back Sept 4th. DH has been away for work pretty much the whole summer and I work from home. It's been... challenging but also had many lovely bits.

I've been desperately working all weekend while DH is briefly home so that we can spend our last week enjoying the hot weather that's on its way. I'm planning beach, waterpark, a trip to an island, and maybe we'll visit the local wildlife park which has a baby moose in residence at the moment.

Or they might just play Fortnite all week while I work some more.

I’m in the US, so our summer holidays started mid-June!

It’s been really fun, actually. The kids did three weeks each of camp (they’re only little, so just 9-2) and otherwise I was at home with them and we went to the beach (a five-minute walk), swam, playground, water parks, theme parks, bowling and library on rainy days, and spent three weeks in England/Europe on holiday.

PhilomenaButterfly · 26/08/2018 22:05

Holiday club every weekday afternoon, DD had 4 days at my aunt's then a week at camp, since then she hasn't wanted to go back to holiday club, DS2 still goes. They're both off to my aunt's again for 4 days on Tuesday, then a community picnic on Friday.

Titsywoo · 26/08/2018 23:18

DS starts Y7 in 10 days and I'm quite nervous about it as he isn't moving up with any friends and he has ASD. He doesn't enjoy school anyway and the lack of friends/difficulty making them is likely to be an issue. DD is going into year 9 and hasn't had the best start to secondary either and isn't looking forward to going back. So the holidays are lovely for us really with no worry or stress. This year has been really good though - good weather, lots of time with friends and family, we've been camping, to a caravan park and this week we're off to Centre Parcs. We've definitely made the most of the 6 weeks (I have worked but only 2 days a week and have had 2 weeks off). In a way I'm looking forward to getting back into a routine but I'm also feeling apprehensive. Anyway I shall put that to the back of my mind and enjoy the next week or so!

Had a lovely morning with DS. Went to a beauty spot, climbed trees, walked in woods, played by river. But then he found a small Weir in the river and tried to walk down the cobbles against my advice. Slime and algae all over it. Cue two falls and a massive tantrum. He was under a little bridge shouting along with a few expletives ☹️ He insisted I climb down to him and then I got stuck and had a big struggle to climb out. We were then both muddy 😟 Headed home in a taxi after much encouragement. Had a quiet afternoon with Lego!!
